CULTURAL TRIPS: 1. MONDAY, MAY 22TH: Downtown Santiago, La Moneda Presidential Palace and Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino The group will join with the Assistant Coordinator at Universidad de los Andes and then they will go all together to Santiago Downtown. We ll visit the Cathedral, walk around Plaza de Armas and Downtown Santiago, and then the group will go to the Presidential Palace La Moneda. The tour starts at 3:00 pm, but the group must be at the entrance 15 minutes before. After that, the group will go to the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino, a museum dedicated to conserve, study and diffuse the artistic legacy of the Pre-Columbian peoples of all of the Americas, specially from Central and South America.

11 A day before the trip, we will send you a document with instructions about how to get there. It s important the students must bring their Passports or ID card for La Moneda tour. 2. THURSDAY, MAY 25TH Sewell mining town Sewell is an uninhabited Chilean mining town located on the slopes of the Andes. The town was founded in 1906 by the Braden Copper Company to extract copper from the El Teniente mine. In 1967 the Kennecott Copper Company lost ownership of the site as the Chilean government achieved a 51% stake in the company. At this time, most people were moved to Rancagua and the Copper Highway was built for commuting purposes. The group will join with the Assistant Coordinator at a meeting point (this will be defined at the time) at 8:00 a.m. and they will go all together on a Particular bus to Sewell mining town. After the tour, they will return to the same meeting point at 7:00 pm (approximately). A day before the trip, we will send you a document with instructions about how to get there and what we are going to do. 3. MONDAY, MAY 29TH: Cerro San Cristobal and Funicular Cerro San Cristobal is a hill which is part of the Metropolitan Park of Santiago, the fourth largest in the world. Here you will have an amazing view about Santiago. The group will join with the Assistant Coordinator at Universidad de los Andes after lunch (At 1:00 pm. approximately) and they will go all together on public transportation. A day before the trip, we will send you a document with instructions about how to get there and what we are going to do. 4. FRIDAY, JUNE 2TH Valparaiso Trip

12 The colonial city of Valparaíso presents an excellent example of late 19thcentury urban and architectural development in Latin America. In its natural amphitheater-like setting, the city is characterized by a vernacular urban fabric adapted to the hillsides that are dotted with a great variety of church spires. It contrasts with the geometrical layout utilized in the plain. The city has well preserved its interesting early industrial infrastructures, such as the numerous elevators on the steep hillsides. The group will go in private buses hire by International Relations office. 5. MONDAY, JUNE 5TH: Cerro Santa Lucia and Lastarria neighborhood Cerro Santa Lucia is a small hill in the center of Santiago, Chile s Capital. At the highest point there is a viewpoint popular with tourists visiting the city. It was originally called Huelén by the pre-colonization inhabitants. However, the current name comes from the day in which Pedro de Valdivia conquered the hill, on December 13, That day celebrates "Santa Lucía". The group will join with the Assistant Coordinator at Universidad de los Andes after lunch (At 1:00 pm. approximately) and they will go all together on public transportation. A day before the trip, we will send you a document with instructions about how to get there and what we are going to do. 6. MONDAY, JUNE 12TH: Central Market and La Vega Market Santiago's wrought-iron fish market is a classic for seafood lunches (and hangover-curing fish stews like the tomato and potatobased caldillo de congrio, Pablo Neruda's favorite). Skip the touristy restaurants in the middle and head for one of the tiny low-key stalls around the market's periphery.

13 The group will join with the Assistant Coordinator at Universidad de los Andes after lunch (At 1:00 pm. approximately) and they will go all together on public transportation. After this, the group will visit also La Vega Market. A day before the trip, we will send you a document with instructions about how to get there and what we are going to do. FIELD TRIPS: 1.
