1 TOURISM IN ESTONIA IN 214 TOURISM IN ESTONIA IN 214 (updated in Sept. 216) 1 In 214, 3.1 million foreign and domestic tourists stayed overnight in the accommodation establishments of Estonia (3.6% more than in 213). The number of domestic tourists amounted to 1.1 million (+6%) and the number of foreign tourists to 1.98 million (+2%). The number of nights spent by foreign and domestic tourists in the accommodation establishments amounted to 5.8 million (+1.3%). Domestic tourists spent 1.89 million nights (+3.6%) and foreign tourists spent 3.92 million nights (+.3%). In both relative and absolute figures domestic tourism increased more than inbound tourism because the latter was negatively affected by the 1% decrease in tourism from Russia Estonia s second largest foreign market. However, both the number of foreign tourists and the number of foreign overnights reached a new record for the 5th consecutive year. In absolute figures, German overnights showed the biggest increase, followed by nights spent by the Latvian, U.S. and Japanese tourists. Russian overnights, on the other hand, showed the biggest decrease in absolute figures. The number of foreign overnights increased thanks to the increase in holiday trips, whereas foreign overnights on other trips decreased. Of the 3.92 million foreign overnights, 2.63 million were spent by holiday tourists (increase by 1.6% or by 42,319 overnights compared to 213). Foreign overnights on business trips amounted to 781,685 (compared to 213, their number decreased by 1,612 or by 1.3%). Foreign overnights on other trips amounted to 52,998 (compared to 213, their number decreased by 21,734 or by 4%). According to the Bank of Estonia, tourism receipts reached a new record for the 4th consecutive year, amounting to EUR 1.68 billion in 214. This was 1% more than in 213. Travel receipts (foreign visitors expenditures in Estonia) amounted to EUR 1.37 billion (11% more than in 213). Fare receipts (foreign visitors payments to Estonian transport companies) amounted to EUR 313 mil. or 5% more than a year ago. The share of tourism receipts in Estonia s total exports of goods and services was 1.2% (up from 9.6% in 213).
