Within these waters you may see Minke whales feeding and Gentoo penguins curiously observing from the rocky shores. - Gerlache Straight, South America Scenic Cruising: 5:00pm to 7:00pm: A number of geographical anomalies around this channel make these waters among the most plankton-rich in the world. When the brave crew of the Endurance, led by intrepid explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, was trapped in the ice during a 1914 polar expedition, they took refuge on this island until help arrived. Extending out into the Atlantic from Puerto Madryn is the Península Valdés, a wildlife sanctuary where vast numbers of sea elephants, whales and penguins far outnumber the few human visitors who make it out this far. Day 15: At Sea (B,L,D) Day 16: Montevideo, Uruguay: 9:00am to 4:30pm (B,L,D) Montevideo is a thoroughly modern city with a rich artistic tradition, the reach of the rural estancias is all around you. Upon arrival in Cusco, you will be met and transferred from the airport to your hotel. This afternoon enjoy a half-day city tour. You will see the exact centre of the Inca Empire, the Plaza de Armas. Also see that a cathedral built on the ruins of an ancient Inca Palace. Next stop will be the old town, with its magnificent renovated colonial buildings, before driving to Sacsayhuaman ruins on the outskirts of Cusco. Sacsayhuaman also offers a fabulous view of the city. Stop at Tambomachay, the bath of the Inca, Kenko, the giant rock whose niches and gaps were carved in a strange way, and Puca Pucara, the ruin of a small fort. Overnight: Casa Andina Classic, Cusco Day 4: Cusco Machu Picchu Cusco (B) This morning transfer by bus to the train station in Ollantaytambo, where you will board a train through the breathtaking Sacred Valley. Along the way see lush, green fields and colourful villages in the foothills of the Andes to Aguas Calientes. From there, board a small bus for the drive up the steep mountain to the ruins of Machu Picchu. Called the Lost City of the Incas, this cultural heritage of mankind is a beautifully located impressive stone city constructed with a technique incredible for its era and even for present times. It follows a walk along the paths following cascades and then along the catwalk that leads very close to the bottom of the Devil s Throat to enjoy magnificent views. Take an elevator to go up to the road, and there board the coach to get back to the hotel. Leaving from the hotel on the Brazilian side for a drive and a quick customs check, Day 21: Rio De Janeiro City Tour Christ The Redeemer (B) After an early morning hotel pickup, enjoy a tour of Christ the Redeemer at Corcovado. On the way, enjoy views of Copacabana beach, Botafogo Beach and Palácio Guanabara. Before heading up, you ll reach Tijuca Forest, stopping at Paineiras to board the vehicles up to Corcovado. The visit to the monument lasts approximately 45 minutes. In case of poor visibility on the summit of the Corcovado, you will make an alternative stop at Mirante Dona Marta (362m), generally less affected by cloudiness. Then, head to Sugarloaf Mountain before continuing to Botafogo Beach towards Praia Vermelha, in the district of Urca, passing by the imposing neo-classical buildings of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, the Institute Benjamin Constant for the blind and the National Institute for Mineral Resources. You ll board the cablecar and Urca Hill (200m) and Sugarloaf, staying there for around 30 minutes at the top. Afterwards head to visit to the Maracanã Stadium from the outside (stopping at Bellini s statue for pictures) and then to the Sambadrome (the stadium for the city s main Carnival parade). You ll then see the Lapa Arches, Lavradio street and Avenida Chile. Visit the cone-shaped Metropolitan Cathedral, not only one of the

Head to the São Bento Monastery, which has been compared to a museum and has a monastic simplicity making it one of the most beautiful architectural complexes in Brazil. On the way back to the hotel, along Aterro do Flamengo, you ll see the Museum of Modern Art, the Monument to the Fallen in World War II, the Church of the Outeiro da Glória, the beaches of Flamengo and Botafogo and return to hotels via Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon.
