Jardín Botánico UACh. In this spectacular botanical garden of the Universidad Austral de Chile, ten hectares, you will marvel with more than one thousand native and introduced plant species. Also, after walking through the park you can learn names of trees, shrubs and plants; in an environment which is bordered by the Cau-Cau River. The entrance to the garden is liberated. Museums The Museo de la Exploración Rudolph Amandus Philippi has its place in the historic House Schüller (built in 1914), which exhibits the work of Rudolph Amandus Philippi, learned naturalist. The Museo Histórico y Antropológico Mauricio Van de Maele, is located in the Andwandter House (National Historical Monument). 4 The Museo Submarino O'Brien. This museum is mounted inside of a submarine of the Navy of Chile, which is anchored in the Valdivia Riverside. This ship is 90 meters long. In its years of operations, it had a staff of 8 officers and 65 crew. After visiting this unique museum you can learn about the lives of the crew under the sea. They work from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 20:00 hrs. During the summer works all day open all day from 10:00 to 20:00 hrs. Spanish Fortifications Travel back into Valdivia s past by walking around the area s fortifications. Be amazed by one of the largest fort and castle systems built by the Spaniards in the entire continent. Visit the buildings that are still standing today and prepare to be impressed by this great defense system that protected the area from the threatening pirates of the 17th and 18th centuries.
