You will first visit the Itaipu Dam, a most impressive joint Brazil-Paraguay feat of engineering that generates significant hydroelectric power for both countries. Afterwards, you will swing by the Maracaña, the world s most famous soccer stadium which is currently undergoing renovations for the World Cup The final stop today will be the Metropolitan Cathedral, a striking cone-shaped modern piece of architecture unlike any other church. After lunch, you will tour through the elegant, sophisticated neighborhoods of Ipanema and Leblon with a stop at the H. Stern Jewelry Museum and Factory, one of the largest jewelry centers in the world. You will pass by the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon on the way back to your hotel for an important nap before heading to dinner and the Sambadrome. The Sambadrome is a 2,300 ft-long (700 m) open-air performance and competition complex designed by Oscar Niemeyer specifically for the annual Samba parade competition in Rio.
