Group A Day 2 Tuesday, February 5, 2013 São Paulo Upon arrival, you will start your Brazilian adventure with breakfast followed by a city tour of São Paulo, the capital of Brazil. Highlights include the Bandeirantes Palace (Government Palace), Ibirapuera Park (one of the largest central parks in Latin America), São Paulo Obelisk, Ipiranga Museum (modeled after the French Palace of Versailles complete with expansive, perfectly manicured gardens), Statue of the Bandeirantes, and the Municipal Theater. Group A Day 3 Wednesday, February 6, 2013 São Paulo / Iguaçu Your flight will depart São Paulo early this morning at 7:20A for Iguaçu Falls, the most spectacular waterfalls in the world comprised of 275 individual cataracts as high as 230 feet tall (70 m) and spanning a mile and a half wide at the junction between Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. You will first visit the Itaipu Dam, a most impressive joint Brazil-Paraguay feat of engineering that generates significant hydroelectric power for both countries. After lunch, we will explore the Argentinian side of the Falls from where you have the most varied and up close views of the falls through a series of easily walkable paths, footbridges and platforms. You will take the electric Corcovado Rack Railway up 2.4 miles (3.8 km) for about 20 minutes to the peak of the mountain at 2,329 ft (710 m) before a set of elevators to the foot of the 125 ft (38 m) statue and viewing platform for breathtaking photos of both Corcovado itself as well as all of Rio. Afterwards, you will swing by the Maracaña, the world s most famous soccer stadium which is currently undergoing renovations for the World Cup The final stop today will be the Metropolitan Cathedral, a striking cone-shaped modern piece of architecture unlike any other church. After dinner, you can choose to get a first-hand taste of one of Rio s infamous humongous street block parties immediately across from your hotel but make sure you leave all your personal belongings at the hotel and don t stay out too late cause you re going to want to! Your tour today brings your through the Downtown area passing the Candêlaria Church, Municipal Theater, and São Benito Monastery, and stopping at Flamingo Park for photos of Guanabara Bay before going to some of the most famous beaches in the world: Copacabana and Ipanema Beaches. After lunch, you will tour through the elegant, sophisticated neighborhoods of Ipanema and Leblon with a stop at the H. Stern Jewelry Museum and Factory, one of the largest jewelry centers in the world. You will pass by the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon on the way back to your hotel for an important nap before heading to dinner and the Sambadrome. The Sambadrome is a 2,300 ft-long (700 m) open-air performance and competition complex designed by Oscar Niemeyer specifically for the annual Samba parade competition in Rio. The vegetation of the islands reflects in the dark waters, creating a surreal and charming landscape, ideal for fantastic photos.
