2 NW Development Region Romania R i Surface (km 2 ) Population Population density (inhab./km 2 ) ,21 The NW Development Region was created through the law 151/1998 (modified with the law 315/2004) by the voluntary association of the local councils but does not have a juridical power and is not an administrative territorial unit. The NW Development Region (Northern Transilvania) is one of the 8 development regions of Romania and is composed of 6 counties: Bihor, Bistrita Nasaud, Cluj, Maramures, Satu Mare, Salaj. The NW Development Region is the place where, along Romanians live more that 50% of the Hungarians from Romania leading to the creation of a unique cultural identity.

3 At regional level, the agriculture has a high level, between 49,4% in Maramures county and 71,9% in Satu Mare county, followed by forests and other vegetable fields. In the NW Development Region there optimal conditions for the development of animal sector thanks to the high percentage of grasslands (49,25%). Also there are enterprises developed in different fields like food industry, shoes, clothing, tourism, constructions, installations, handicraft, etc.

5 The region benefits of a lot of touristic attractions and resources which give important development perspectives: thermal waters, salt mines (international resort Baile Felix Bihor County, 1Mai Resort, Tinca, Tasnad, Marghita, Ocna Sugatag, Dej, Turda, etc.); there are also development projects of mountain resorts Borsa, Baisoara, Stana de Vale, Colibita; popular culture and ethnography with touristic destinations of high interest in Romania (Banffy Castle from Bontida), d) citadels dl and monuments (Bihor, Satu Mare counties), fortified churches and wood Monasteries from Maramures county (Unesco monuments), etc; more than 170 protected areas with a total surface of ha, 2 natural parks (Apuseni Natural Parks and Maramuresului Mountains Natural Park) included din the touristic i circuits. i

7 PNDR through the European funds, is focusing on the possibilities to approach and minimize the structural disadvantages from the agricultural and forest sector in order to modernize, consolidate ld and restructure them to reach a high level of competitiveness and durability regarding the environment. PNDR also focuses on improving the equilibrium between the rural areas economical development and using properly the natural resources by maintaining and increasing the attractiveness of the rural areas as an important element in diversifying the agriculture and in identifying alternative economical activities. PNDR takes in count the needs of two main categories from rural areas: retired population and active population. p

9 Measure 112 'Instaling youg farmers' had 7 call for proposals session between The amount cumulated was of 460,2 million euro. During the 7 sessions were submitted projects, with a total value of 630,1 million euros, an amount twice bigger than the European fund allocated for this measure (331,8 million euro). Until 18 April 2013, from the total number of submitted projects, were selected projects, with a total value of 310,2 million euro, and the contracted projects reached 9.521, with a total value of 211,6 million euro (63,78% from the total amount).

10 Rural Entrepreneur Project The Rural Entrepreneur strategic project is implemented by the National Foundation of Young Managers FNTM ( The project aim is to develop the entrepreneurial culture and to increase the expertise in order to improve poethe abilities, the knowing and the managerial age a behavior for the existing and future young entrepreneurs from the rural environment by sustaining professional training courses. Results: Personalized managerial education for 400 young persons from rural areas in order to develop a future business or an existing business in the rural area. Professional training courses for 1400 young persons from rural areas (managerial skills, communication, entrepreneurial spirit development Training and counseling for 300 future young managers

11 Youth thinvolvement tin the rural community is mainly as employees in the municipalities of the communes to which they belong. The communes municipalities usually have at least 40% young employees in different positions. Another involvement is in the rural festivals of each commune as organizers or participants.

12 Rural youth development is increasing every year thanks to the growing interest of the young people in starting a business in rural areas, in farming, in developing touristic activities and in being part of a rural community.
