2 SECOND COLLECTION Our Second Collection today is our Maintenance & Repair Collection to help with the repair and restoration of the parish. Thank you for your generosity and support. SUMMER MISSION APPEAL Once a year during the summer we are visited by a Community that works in the missions. Next weekend, July 28-29, 2012 a representative of IVE (from de Spanish Instituto del Verbo Encarnnado) in Tanzania from East Africa will speak at all the Masses and tell us about their work and missionary efforts. The second collection will go to support the efforts of the IVE Tanzania. Please be generous to support this worthy mission. AIR CONDITIONING COLLECTION Two weeks ago the Air Conditioning Collection totaled $5,842. May God bless you for being so generous and supportive in helping us offset the Summer electric bills. ADULT SACRAMENTS If you are an adult, 18 years or older and have not received all your Sacraments (Communion and Confirmation) and would like to do so this year. We offer at Blessed Sacrament a program for adults (RCIA) that guides them to the reception of these sacraments. CARNIVAL NEWS Here is a short financial report regarding the Carnival conducted a few weeks ago: TOTAL RECEIVED: $ 51,837 COST OF RIDES: -$ 25,000 COST OF GAMES: -$ 3,100 TOTAL FOR PARISH $ 23,737 Thank you once again for a wonderful and successful Summer Carnival. FALL CONCERT On Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 4:00pm, Ronan Tynan will perform a Classic Tenor Concert here at Blessed Sacrament Church. Tickets are now available and as always are sold on a first come first serve bases. The donation is $25 and all seats are reserved. If you are interested in attending please reserve your seats now. In just about a week s time we will open up to the parishioners. For more information please call Following the concert a reception will be held in the Auditorium which includes music, dancing, beer, wine, soda, hors-d oeuvres, dessert and coffee for $20. UPCOMING EVENTS AUGUST 11TH, 2012 On Saturday, August 11, 2012 a trip is planned to visit the Franciscan Monastery (1400 Quincy Street, Northeast, Washington, DC). PRAYER & LIFE WORKSHOP Beginning on Tuesday, September 6th from 7:30pm to 9:30pm the Taller de Oracion y Vida, invites you to attend a 15 -week seminar to be held in the Convent. This is a grace filled experience and one that can impact your life greatly. For more information please call Maria Remache at to reserve your place. 16TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME DAILY PRAYER FOR THE WEEK One of the blessings of reading passages that describe Jesus' ministry is that they can help us become more and more attracted to him. We can become fascinated by his pastoral care for those on the margins of Society or his courage in the face of opposition. The more we watch Jesus, the easier it is for us to fall in love with him. Being drawn to Jesus with growing affection will ultimately lead us to want to be with him and like him. So each morning this week we can begin our day with a very brief prayer. Lord, let me see you, love you and desire to follow you more closely today. We might say, Drive away the demons that tempt my spirit today on one day and repeat that prayer at various times, especially when we are tempted to look good, or to escape into overindulgence with food or drink or fantasies, or when we are tempted to let anger get the better of us. On another day, we might pray, Dear Lord, I get paralyzed sometimes - just stuck and unable to move. Free me today, by reminding me of your love and mercy. Still another day, we might ask, Let me respond to your call with the freedom Matthew had. We might turn to the Lord some day and simply say, Lord, I know you desire mercy and not sacrifice, please free me from the judgments I will be tempted to make today. Finally, I might pray, Lord, pour your new wine into me. Let me be a new wineskin to receive it. Give me the freedom today to let your word transform how I act and how I choose today. PRAYER GROUP OUTING Come, spend a day with us in the open air as we picnic, sing songs of praise, listen to teachings by Father Walter, celebrate Mass and enjoy ourselves. Please consider donating a pint of blood to save a life. Many people say I don t have time to donate while the people who need the blood say I don t have much time. FLEA MARKET On Sunday, August 5th, 2012, Blessed Sacrament will host another outdoor Flea Market from 8:00am till 3:00pm. ZUMBA CLASSES Anyone interested in attending Zumba Exercise classes in our neighborhood can do so on Tuesdays & Thursdays afternoons 4:00pm at P.S. 149 School Yard. 4 JULY 22ND, 2012 SEGUNDA COLECTA La Segunda Colecta es para el Mantenimiento y Reparación. Esto nos ayuda para el arreglo y restauración de la Iglesia. Agradezco su generosidad y su ayuda. APELACION DE VERANO PARA MISIONES Una vez al año, en el verano somos visitados por representantes de una Comunidad que trabaja en las misiones. El próximo fin de semana, de Julio del 2012, un representante de IVE (Instituto del Verbo Encarnado) en Tanzania al Este de Africa hablará del trabajo misionero en esas tierras de misión. Como una respuesta a esa labor misionera haremos una Segunda Colecta destinada a ayudar a IVE Tanzania. Agradecemos su generosidad a esta gran obra misionera. COLECTA PARA EL AIRE ACONDICIONADO Dos semanas atrás, el total de la Colecta para el Aire Acondicionado fue de $5,842. Que Dios les bendiga por su generosidad y responsabilidad en ayudarnos a cubrir los pagos de los recibos de electricidad en este verano. SACRAMENTOS PARA ADULTOS Si usted es un adulto, de 18 años y más y aún no ha recibido todos sus Sacramentos (Comunión y Confirmación) y le gustaría recibirlos este año. Nuestra parroquia ofrece el programa de preparación para adultos (RICA) que les prepara para recibir estos sacramentos. CONCIERTO DE OTOÑO El Domingo 14 de Octubre del 2012 a las 4:00pm, Ronan Tynan interpretará un Concierto de Tenor Clásico aquí en nuestra Iglesia. Los Boletos ya están disponibles y como de costumbre los asientos de entregan por orden de reservación, quien primero reserve, será el primero en tener su asiento. La donación es de $25 y todos los asientos son reservados. Si están interesados en asistir haga sus reservaciones ahora. En unas cuantas semanas la venta se podrá a disposición de todos los feligreses. TALLER DE ORACION Y VIDA Comenzando el Martes 6 de Septiembre de 7:30pm a 9:30pm, el Taller de Oración y Vida, les invita a un seminario de 15 semanas que se realizará en el Convento. María Remache al ORACION DIARIA DE LA SEMANA Una de las bendiciones de la lectura de pasajes que describen el ministerio de Jesús es que pueden ayudarnos a ser cada vez más atraídos por él. Podemos llegar a ser fascinados por su atención pastoral de los marginados, de la sociedad o de su valor frente a la oposición. Cuanto más vemos a Jesús, más fácil es para nosotros enamorarnos de él. Ser atraídos a Jesús con cariño en última instancia nos llevará a querer estar con él y ser como él. Así que cada mañana de esta semana podemos empezar nuestro día con una oración muy breve. "Señor, déjame que te vea, te ame y desee seguirte más de cerca este día." Se podría decir, "Ahuyenta a los demonios que tientan a mi espíritu hoy" durante el día y repetir la oración varias ocasiones, especialmente cuando estamos siendo tentados de lucir bien, o para escapar a los excesos con la comida o bebida o fantasías, o cuando nos sintamos tentados a dejar que el enojo saque lo mejor de nosotros. El siguiente día, podemos orar: "Señor mío, a veces, me siento paralizado - simplemente atascado e incapaz de moverme. Líbrame hoy, recordándome tu amor y misericordia." Otro día, nos podríamos decir: "Permíteme responder a tu llamada con la libertad que tuvo Mateo. Podríamos dirigirnos al Señor en otro día y decir simplemente: "Señor, sé que quieres misericordia y no sacrificio, líbrame de los juicios que esté tentado a hacer hoy. Finalmente, puede orar diciendo: "Señor, derrama tu vino nuevo en mí. Déjame ser un hombre nuevo para recibirlo. Dame la libertad para que tu palabra transforme la forma en que actúo y cómo elijo vivir el día de hoy."
