2 The 1907 restaurant building is located in the historic district of Ellijay, Georgia, and houses a retail dress shop in the lower left commercial space with the 1907 Restaurant taking the remainder of the building, which includes the lower right commercial unit, the back patio area and the entire second floor, with total building square footage of 6,612. It s brick construction lends to the historic feel, with brick walls not only on the exterior but also the first floor interior. Traces of old product advertisements are still faintly visible on the outside and a backdrop for many tourist photos. Construction of this building originally started around 1907, thus the name of the restaurant, although this building was originally a pool hall for the locals and served mainly hot dogs. Upstairs were several apartments that were rented on an annual basis. Over the years, there were upgrades to the building but starting 2012 a total renovation took place, with the interior of the building stripped down to it s exterior and interior walls and then rebuilt. It became effectively a new building with a historic exterior. In 2017 additional renovations took place, reworking the upstairs bar area, the adjoining banquet/special events room and then the downstairs bar. New barrel style bar tables and chairs were added, giving it a more rustic ambiance. A full layout with dimensions and photographs follow.

3 ELLIJAY, GEORGIA Ellijay is the anglicized form of the Cherokee name Elatseyi, meaning "new ground". Other sources say it means "green place". Perhaps this is why Ellijay, in Gilmer County, is the apple capital of Georgia. Gilmer County was cut from Cherokee County in 1832, and Ellijay became the county seat in Ellijay existed as a remote mountain community until the Marietta and Northern Georgia Railroad (later the L & N) arrived in This prompted something of a boom in the timber industry, but the area remained relatively isolated until the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway (Georgia Route 515 named for Georgia governor and U.S. senator Zell Miller) was completed in Ellijay is located at the center of Gilmer County and is the county seat. The city has a total area of 3.6 square miles, all land, and is situated at the confluence of the Ellijay and Cartecay rivers, forming the Coosawattee River, part of the Oostanaula/Coosa/Alabama River watershed. It is bordered to the east and south by the city of East Ellijay. One of the first mountain towns north of Atlanta, Ellijay is a popular tourist destination. U.S. Route 76 bypasses the city center to the south and east. It leads west 24 miles to Chatsworth and northeast 16 miles to Blue Ridge. Georgia State Route 52 (Chatsworth Highway) also leads 24 miles to Chatsworth, taking a more northerly route over Cohutta Mountain. Georgia State Route 515, the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway, leads northeast with US 76 to Blue Ridge and south 20 miles to Jasper. Downtown Atlanta is only 77 miles to the south.

Downtown Ellijay also hosts a variety of celebrations and festivities throughout the year, with the most famous being the October Apple Festival. This event fills the town to its limits and is always a fun time. There are other events throughout the year that bring large crowds to the town, bringing in large amounts of business. Ellijay area also hosts numerous family vineyards. The climate, soil, and elevation of north Georgia offer the ideal combination for growing quality wine grapes. These rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains are home to a number of boutique vineyards and wineries. Some of these family owned and operated establishments have been featured on Georgia Wine Highways tours. Most schedule regular tours and wine tastings, and several offer picturesque event venues for weddings and other special occasions. A visit to one or more of these local wineries makes the perfect romantic weekend. The Ellijay and Gilmer County area abounds in recreational opportunities for all ages. Experience nature along miles of north Georgia hiking and biking trails. The proximity to the start of the Appalachian Trail offers opportunities for a day hike or a longer trek. Picnicking and camping are available in the Chattahoochee National Forest and nearby state parks. Visitors enjoy boating on Carters Lake or trout fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and tubing on area rivers and creeks. There is always something to do in Ellijay, Georgia!
