2 NAZCA LINES The Nazca Lines, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994, are a series of ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert in southern Peru. The high, arid plateau lies about 400 k.m. south of Lima. The lines are shallow designs made in the ground by removing the reddish pebbles and uncovering the whitish/grayish ground beneath. Scholars believe the Nazca Lines were created by the Nazca culture between 400 and 650 AD. The hundreds of individual figures range in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, fish, sharks, orcas, lizards, among others. The largest figures are over 200 m. (660 ft.) big. PARACAS NATIONAL RESERVE AND BALLESTAS ISLANDS VIÑAK LODGE IN THE CORDILLERA CENTRAL Paracas National Reserve is located on the south coast of Peru near the town of Pisco, famous for the eponymous alcoholic drink. The area is home to one of the largest sealion colonies in the world. Just offshore are the Ballestas Islands, an excellent place to see marine and bird life. Mountain Lodges of Peru s Viñak Lodge is located in Santiago de Viñak, in the province of Yauyos (4 hours from Lima) at an elevation of 3310 m / ft. It is the perfect getaway spot on the way to view the famous Nazca Lines. The lodge lies atop a mountain with impressive views of the valleys at its feet. The heated jacuzzi and exquisite Novo Andina gourmet cuisine are some of the main highlights of any stay at the lodge. The lodge offers a multitude of rewarding and sometimes demanding, but always relaxing activities such as mountain biking, trekking, horseback riding, and cultural visits. These islands, eroded into many caves and arches, provide shelter for seabirds and sea-lions. Although the islands fall just outside the Paracas National Reserve, they are protected by separate legislation. The islands are home to dozens of species of marine birds, including the Humboldt penguin, cormorants, boobies, and pelicans. Even condors have been known to visit. The shores are teeming with sea-lions and in the surrounding waters you might see dolphins and occasionally whales.

3 Itinerary NAZCA LINES 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS DAY 1 You will be picked up at 8:00 a.m. at your hotel in Lima and you will be taken to Viñak Lodge in a four wheel drive vehicle. The drive lasts approximately 4 hours. Upon arrival at the lodge, a delicious lunch will be served. In the afternoon, after lunch, you may take a relaxing soak in the heated jacuzzi, trek to a neighboring village, or simply enjoy the tranquility of the lodge. An exquisite Novo Andina gourmet dinner will be served at approximately 7:30 p.m. DAY 2 After breakfast, you can take advantage of the facilities that Viñak has to offer. You may choose a guided mountain bike ride, a horseback ride or a trek across the mountains. Enjoy the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and valleys from the patio or the Jacuzzi. DAY 3 This morning you will leave at 6:00 a.m. for a full-day excursion to view the Nazca Lines. You will get there at noon, fly over the site, and admire the mysterious lines. The Cessna plane is a Grand Caravan model. Overnight, you will stay at the Libertador Hotel in Paracas. DAY 4 This morning, you will visit the Islas Ballestas, teeming with sea and marine creatures. You can take this 2-hour group tour either at 8:00 a.m. or at 10:00 a.m. Lunch is taken en route to Lima at Casa Andina Classic Chincha Restaurant. You will return to Lima at either 3:00 pm or 7:00 pm, depending on the time you start the tour in the morning. 3
