2 Arrival Students are expected to arrive in Madrid on Friday 10 th of March 2017 along the day. Informa on about how to reach the city is included. Accommodation La Posada de Huertas Calle Huertas 21, Madrid Phone: Metro Sta on: Antón Mar n Line 1 ( Light blue one) The closest and most useful alternative is Sol station within an 8 minutes walk, where you can take 3 lines of metro and another 2 of Cercanías trains. Students are expected to pay for the 8 night s accommoda on / per person. (18.5. per night, breakfast is included) at arrival time. 3 HOW TO GO TO THE HOSTEL From the airport to the accommodation: Take the metro in the airport, line 8 (pink one) to Nuevos Ministerios (5 stops). This line is supposed to be closed because of Restructuring works, so be 韀 er stop reading this point. In Nuevos Ministerios change to line number 10 (navy blue one) to Tribunal sta on and there just take Line 1 ( Light blue one) to Antón Mar n. Metro is easiest way to reach the hostel from the airport. From Airport to Atocha Station You can choose between Cercanías train (C1line) or Airport Bus ( Yellow one), both of them will bring you to Atocha. From train station Atocha to the accommodation: It s less than 20 minutes walking to the hostel through Atocha street to get to Anton Mar n square. Alterna vely you can take buses 6, 26 or 32 to get there, or the metro line 1 to Antón Mar n From the bus station Méndez Álvaro to the accommodation Take the metro in the bus sta on, line 6 (grey one) to Legazpi (2 stops). There change to line 3 (yellow one) to Sol. 3

4 SCHEDULE: March, Friday 10 th Welcome Party: The party will be held at a place called Mitty ( Calle Julián Romea, 4 Metro: Guzmán el Bueno ). Meeting Point: at 23:15, at the Metro Sta on Guzmán el Bueno. (Or at 23:30 in MITTY if you want to go by yourself) You should look for the BEST UPM students in order to get your drink. Come smartly dressed, if you re not you might not get admitted by the staff. First free drink cket is given by BEST UPM students, but you must show your ID Card with picture and arrive to the pub BEFORE 1:00 REMARKS: MAKE SURE YOU BRING AN ID CARD (WITH PICTURE) OR YOUR PASSPORT WITH YOU, WE NEED TO IDENTIFY YOU. In case you miss the meeting point, here you have the instructions to reach the place. Take the metro in Sol (Line 3, yellow), to Argüelles (4 stops), then change train to Line 6 (Grey) to Guzmán el Bueno (4 stops). Remarks: Dinner is NOT included (buy your own paella!). 4

If you leave before 1:30 (not recommended ;) ) you can take metro back to the accommoda on. But don t worry if you want to party longer Important Information: Transports during the night. The city has efficient network of night transport that work during all the night so you can come back to the hostel by bus whenever you want. You can go in `búho (owl), buses that end and begin their line at Cibeles and the frequency depends on the day of the week, around 40 minutes from Sunday to Thursday and 20 minutes in Fridays and Saturdays nights. You ll have to take the N21 at San Fco. de Sales Guzman el Bueno towards Plaza de Cibeles (11 stops) and there take N26 towards Atocha León (4 stops) 5

7 March, Saturday 11 th Registration and Welcoming Reception: at 11:00 a.m Registra on for the ATHENS November Session at the Rectorado de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Edificio A ( Av/Ramiro de Maeztu 7, Metro Sta on: Metropolitano, Exit: Gregorio del Amo). You must look for the table with the number of your course and do the registra on there. You will pay for the social Ac vi es and Organizers will give you your welcome Pack. Students have to pay for the European Dimension Activities fee: 25 during registration a.m. Official Welcome to the ATHENS November 2016 Session, with the par cipa on of UPM Interna onal Office and ATHENS Coordinators, and professors of the ATHENS session courses, together with the Students Delegates ("Team Leaders") in charge of the students tutoring for the extra academic ac vi es. 1:30 pm Visit to Madrid City Rally It is a game to make a first contact with the city and with other par cipants of the programme. All the par cipants, divided into groups, will enjoy a journey around the city of Madrid, playing games in some of the more famous points of the city. Don t forget to bring your camera!. We will provide you the lunch during the City Rally. City Rally will finish about 18:30 at Sol. If you are late, you ll miss points Contact phone numbers for the City Rally. HOW TO GO TO Rectorado A UPM Av/Ramiro de Maeztu , Madrid Telf: Metro stop : Metropolitano, line 6 (grey one). Exit : Juan XXIII From the airport to the meeting place: Take the metro in the airport, line 8 (pink one) to Nuevos Ministerios. You will find an alterna ve bus service, but you can go in Cercanías C1 to Nuevos ministerios and there change to metro line number 6 (grey one) to Metropolitano sta on. 7

8 From the accommodation to the meeting place on Saturday: Posada de Huertas: Take the metro in Sol to Moncloa (3 stops). Change there to line number 6 (grey one) to Metropolitano. In Metropolitano station, take the exit Juan XXIII, and follow the map. You have here the map of the Rectorado area. 8

9 UPM Athens Programme March 2017 March, Sunday 12 th Visit to the two most important museums in Madrid: Visit to Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina So a, lunch at the Re ro Park and visit to Museo Nacional del Prado. You mustn t take pics inside the museums. We will provide you this day with the lunch (one or two sandwiches with a drink and a piece of fruit). A er lunch you have free me. We suggest to you spend some me visi ng Re ro Park. The entrance to Museo del Prado is programmed at 17:00. Meeting point 11:00 am, at the plaza in front of the Museo Reina Sofía. HOW TO GET THERE Museo Reina Sofia if you miss the mee ng point Posada: The easier and faster way is go by foot. Museo Reina So a is very, very close from La Posada de Huertas. 13 March, Wednesday 15 th Night Walk The purpose of the Night Walk is to show you some of the most emblema c areas of the city during the night. A er that we ll take you to some pubs to get some drinks and party for a while. People from BEST UPM will pick you up at the Metro Station Opera (line 2, the red one. 5 minutes walking from Sol) at 21:00h. The walk will take (more or less) one hour and a half before going to the pubs. The mee ng point is quite close from the hostel, you can go walking. In the map you can see the way to follow from the hostel Posada de Huertas. Remarks: Dinner is NOT included. Meeting Point: at 23:15, at the Metro Sta on Argüelles, Exit Alberto Aguilera. You should look for the BEST UPM students in order to get your drink. First free drink cket, is given by BEST UPM students, but you must show your ID Card with picture. For a free drink you have to be before 00:30. Take exit Alberto Aguilera, h ead west on Calle de Alberto Aguilera toward Calle de Gaztambide and turn right onto Calle de Gaztambide. Remarks: Dinner is NOT included. Important Information: If you want to leave a er 1:30, you ll have to go to Arcipreste de Hita Fernando el Católico, but take the bus in the surface (N 21 will take you directly to the Cibeles square). 14
