1 Notes on Contributors PABLO MARTÍN ACEÑA is Professor of Economic History at the University of Alcalá. His publications include Economic Development in Spain Since 1870 (1997), Monetary Standards in the Periphery (2000), and El oro de Moscú y el oro de Berlín (2001). WALTER L. BERNECKER is Professor of History at the Erlangen- Nürnberg University, Germany. His publications include Colectividades y Revolución Social. El anarquismo en la guerra civil española, (1982), España entre tradición y modernidad (1999), and the edited volumes El precio de la modernización (1994) and De la Guerra Civil a la Transición (1997). TOM BUCHANAN is University Lecturer in Modern History and Politics at the University of Oxford.
