2 Lak Lake Coordinates: 12o o26 25 N 108o o12 07 E Size: 12,744 ha located within 3 communes and one town of Lak district, Dak Lak Province (Yang Tao, Bong Krang, Dak Lieng and Lien Son district town). Total population of the district is about 59,830 people. Type: Inland wetlands Character: High plateau, river side wetlands. Lak Lake Habitats for many aquatic and bird species including rare and endangerd ones such as Siame crocodile... Providing fish, water, landscape for local people, including tourist development Important watershed for Mekong river Protection status: Protected area : Natural resources including fish and forest exploitation; Solid and liquid waste from industrial and domestic, agricultural activities; Tourist development Urbanization

3 Lo Go Sa Mat Coordinates: 11 o o 47 N 105 o o 04 E Size: ha people living in the buffer zone. Type: Inland wetlands Character: Melaleuca swamp, Broad leave and Diprocarp forest. Seasonally inundated grassland. Lo Go Sa Mat Habitats for many aquatic and bird species including rare and endangered ones such as Siame crocodile, Storks... Providing fish, water, landscape for local people, including tourist development Forest fire Grazing including deforestation, hunting

4 Tram Chim Coordinates: 10o40' 10o47' N, 105o26' 105o36' E Size: 7588 ha Population in buffer zone: 50,000 belongs to 5 communes and one district town. Type: Inland wetlands Character: Melaleuca swamp, Seasonally inundated grassland, Lotus swamp and wild rice Tram Chim Very important habitat for waterbirds including rare and endangered species like Sarus Crane, Bengal Florican, storks..., and many other aquatic and plant species. Providing fish, water, landscape for local people, including tourist development Historical values Forest fire Grazing, canal digging, urbanization Invasive species (Mimosa pigra)

5 U Minh Thuong Coordinates: 9o31 9o39 N 105º03 105º07 E Size: 8,053 ha Total population in buffer zone: 16,227 Type: Peat land, swamp Character: Melaleleuca forest, swamp, grassland and open water, water ways. Part of the site was severely destroyed by fire in dry season (2002). However 4826 ha is intact wetlands, of which more than 600 hectare of mature forest on peat-land can provide enough seedling for rehabilitation of the site. U Minh Thuong Habitats for many aquatic and bird species including rare and endangered ones such as Siame crocodile, Storks, otters... Providing fish, water, landscape for local people, including tourist development Forest fire including deforestation

6 Mui Ca Mau Coordinates: 8o32 8o49 N 104o40 104o55 E Size: 41,862 ha Of those: terrestrial is 15,262 ha; tidal mud flat and sea 26, ha. Total population: 6,123 Type: Coastal and estuarine Character: Mangroves, tidal mud flat, aquaculture ponds, river mouths and water ways. Mui Ca Mau Habitats for many aquatic and bird species including rare and endangerd ones such as crocodile, storks, otters... Providing fish, shrimps, bivals, etc., landscape for local people, p including tourist development including deforestation Aquaculture/ shrimp farming development
