A laboratory for high-class inorganic pigments was built to streamline quality control. The pigment laboratory was separated as an independent company, starting ASAHI KASEI KOGYO CO., LTD. Asahi Colors Co., Ltd. was established to perform production and distribution of oil colors. A special contact was made with NIBCO INC. in the United States regarding Copper Tube Fittings, etc. The Taiwan Branch opened in Taipei, Taiwan. An overseas subsidiary was established in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.(ASAHI SANGYO [MALAYSIA] SDN. BHD.) President Kinsaku Kodama became Chairman. Executive Vice President Mikio Kodama became President. An overseas subsidiary was established in Bangkok, Thailand. (ASAHI SANGYO [THAILAND] CO., LTD.) China Tsingtao Office was moved to Shanghai, and renamed Shanghai Office. The company acquired ISO9001:2000 certification. (Headquarters, Tokyo Head Office, Fabricated Metals Department, Nagoya Branch, Hamamatsu Branch, and Shizuoka Office) The company acquired ISO14001:1996 certification.
