Over viaducts, galleries and loop tunnels, the train makes its way up to dazzling glaciers and far down to the palm paradise of Italy. As the highest railway line across the Alps, the Bernina Express connects the rth of Europe with the South, and bridges gaps between language regions and cultures. The route of the Bernina Express is an innovative example of the development of high-alpine landscapes and blends harmoniously into the mountain world of Albula and Bernina. In the modern panoramic car you travel through 55 tunnels, over 196 bridges and along inclines of up to 70 per mil. The route of the Bernina Express is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Both, train lovers, as well as visitors interested in nature and culture, will highly enjoy this journey. Experience also the second classic of the Swiss panoramic journeys. With the slowest express train in the world, you travel through unique natural landscapes, over mighty mountain rivers and past rugged rock cliffs. The sunny observation platform reveals breathtaking views in all directions: the Matterhorn, the Gorner Glacier, the Monte-Rosa-Massiv with the highest Swiss Mountain, the Dufourspitze with meters a.s.l. The historic Gornergrat Railway (opened 1898) climbs up the meter long route to the Gornergrat (3 029 m) over impressive breaks, through galleries and tunnels. Europe s highest cogwheel train has its starting point in the famous holiday resort of Zermatt and the route up along those mighty mountains is already a stunning experience on its own. The trip to the Gornergrat is already included. You can decide spontaneously, on which day you want to see the Matterhorn up close. You will find the station of the Gornergrat Bahn just a few steps away from the Zermatt train station. The Furka steam railway mountain route takes visitors back to the golden age of steam railways in Switzerland. The journey leads from Oberwald in Canton Valais to Realp.The intermediate stop at Furka station is at the routes highest point of metres a.s.l. The Furka mountain route, opened in 1926, was the most spectacular part of the Glacier Express on the way from St. Moritz / Davos to Zermatt for more than 5 decades. The Glacier Express was named after the mighty Rhone Glacier, which passengers were able to marvel at on their journey between Gletsch and Furka. We have reserved a limited number of seats in this carefully restored steam train (2nd class). The approximately two-hour drive from Oberwald to Realp can be booked as an additional service for 77 per person.
