Day 1: Tuesday, August 7 Columbia River Gorge, Leavenworth Our first day of travel takes us into the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. As the largest national scenic area in the U.S., it stretches over 80 beautiful miles forming the boundary between Washington and Oregon. With names like Bridge of the Gods, Cascade Locks and Bridal Veil, it carries with it an enormous amount of history and geologic intrigue. After a tasty lunch in The Dalles, we travel through the rugged plateaus of the Yakima Valley, traverse Bluett Pass and arrive in the Bavarian village of Leavenworth. 2 Day 2: Wednesday, August 8 Candy, BBQ, Nutcrackers and My Fair Lady This morning we re off to Liberty Orchards factory store, home of the famous Aplets and Cotlets sweets. Watch candy being made, sample their products and shop in their well-stocked gift store. Enroute stop at the Smallwoods Harvest Store where room after room of gourmet food and gifty items beckon us. Nearby is Red Tail Canyon Farm where draft horses lead us through the woods in hay wagons and an outdoor home cooked BBQ lunch awaits. The afternoon is left schedule-free to allow time for shopping in town, playing a round of miniature golf, swimming in the hotel's pool, hiking along the river or relaxing in the beautiful ambiance of the Enzian Inn. Today or tomorrow pop into the Nutcracker Museum, open from 1:00-5:00 pm, where 6000 nutcrackers of every size, shape and age are on display. This evening dinner is included at the Bavarian-style King Ludwig Restaurant located in the heart of town (pre-select). Here we visit the acclaimed Ohme Gardens situated on a craggy, rock-strewn bluff overlooking the breathtaking Cascade Mountains and Columbia River Valley. Walk the natural stone paths past lush foliage, tranquil pools and flourishing alpine plants and flowers. Expect steps and uneven terrain so be sure to wear good walking shoes. Next we'll stop at Pybus Public Market where vendors sell fresh produce, cooked food, bakery items, and arts and crafts. Find your lunch here or wait until we return to Leavenworth. The afternoon is unplanned so peruse this charming town at your leisure. Dinner is on your own tonight to choose from a wide variety of downtown cafes, restaurants and eateries serving everything from fondue to hamburgers to spaghetti. 3 Courtesy of Rainier Guest Services Day 4: Friday, August 10 Authentic totem at Tillicum Village Tillicum Village/Argosy Cruise, Puyallup This morning we are off to western Washington, so grab your box breakfast and bid Leavenworth "Auf Wiedersehen." As we drive through the Northern Cascade Mountains we are surrounded by beautiful peaks and pristine evergreen forests. After making a brief rest stop at Snoqualmie Pass, we continue to Seattle where we board a double decked Argosy passenger boat and cruise to nearby Blake Island State Park. Here we explore Tillicum Village, a recreated Native American homesite. From a dramatic Native storytelling performance to a lavish buffet featuring traditionally prepared fire roasted fish and Northwest cuisine, this is a day you won't forget. After the show there is time to peruse the Native art displayed throughout the Longhouse and browse the gift shop prior to boarding the boat back to Seattle. Added cost: dinner Day 5: Saturday, August 11 Rainier National Park, Paradise Inn This morning a step-on guide joins us to narrate our journey through the south side of Mount Rainier National Park. Home to 14,410-foot Mount Rainier an icon in the Washington landscape Mount Rainier is the most glaciated peak in the contiguous U.S. and the park is our country's fifth oldest national park. Enroute to the park we stop at Daniel Klennert's outdoor "Spirit of Iron" Sculpture Park to walk Paradise Inn's Grand Dining Salon among an eclectic array of recycled metal sculptures. On arrival in Paradise, elevation 5,400-feet, we are greeted with glorious views (weather dependent) and a wonderful lunch at the historic Paradise Inn. (pre-select) The Inn was built of exposed cedar logs in the early 1900s, and is a popular place for gathering, photographing, shopping and eating. Here you will also want to take time to peruse the new Visitor Center to learn more about the local geology and ecology, and shop in the book/gift shop. Before departing be sure to take time to stroll some of the trails that wind through the abundant fields of wildflowers. A 50-minute tram tour gives us an eye-to-eye view of animals such as moose, Roosevelt elk and bison. A nicely paved pathway gives us an opportunity to stroll through the woods and spot black bears, wolves, cougars, foxes, beavers and other northwest native animals. Walking is an essential part of this visit, so be sure to wear comfortable rubber-soled shoes. After lunch and shopping time at Northwest Trek's gift shop and cafe, we continue our journey homeward. Along the way we pass the historic Jackson House log Cabin - a popular stopping place for Oregon Trail pioneers. Just up the road from there we make a quick stop at the St Francis Xavier Mission, site of the first permanently established mission in the state of Washington. Today, a brick1932-built church stands on the site. Before we know it, we're back on I-5 making our way into the Willamette Valley. 5 Deposit: $250 per person due at time of reservation. Payment/Cancellation Policy: Payment is required in full sixty (60) days prior to tour departure (no later than June 7, 2018) or at time of booking if reservation is made within 60 days of departure. If payment is not received by this time, reservations may be cancelled and any waitlisted passenger could be added to the trip. Cancellations received after final payment date (June 7, 2018) are charged $100 per person cancellation fee plus any irretrievable payments made to vendors. Cancellations made less than seven (7) days prior to departure including no-shows are non-refundable. Trip cancellation insurance is highly recommended. Call for details. Note: Ohme Gardens is not walker or wheelchair accessible. The paths are mostly narrow and uneven and there are steps to some of the garden areas. Hotels: Enzian Inn, Leavenworth: Set amidst the magnificent Northern Cascade Mountains, you might believe you are instead in the Swiss Alps. This Bavarian old-world style hotel is surrounded by panoramic views of the valley and mountains and has a charming decorated lobby area with a piano and sofas clustered in front of a fireplace. Located one-half block from downtown shops and restaurants, there is an indoor and outdoor pool and hot tub, table tennis, fitness room, and light-filled mezzanine overlooking the lobby. Here you will find a microwave --- perfect for making popcorn. Each room has hand-painted and carved Austrian furnishings and beds with down comforters, iron and board, robes, hairdryer and complimentary wi-fi. Best Western Premium Plaza Hotel, Puyallup: This hotel is a modern top-of-the-line Best Western hotel complete with a fitness center, indoor pool and spa, Fireside Bar & Bistro, in-room microwave, refrigerator, large flat-screen TV, coffee maker, iron and board, hairdryer, complimentary fresh-baked cookies in the lobby every afternoon, complimentary tea, coffee, hot cocoa, cider and fruit offered in the lobby 24 hours. What to pack: We recommend that you dress in layers to accommodate fluctuations in weather and occasional air conditioning challenges. Casual and comfortable clothing is key. Walking is essential on this tour so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes.

6 For proper portage, please have your name clearly fastened to the outside of your suitcase. Limit yourself to one piece of porter-handled luggage. No limit on the amount of hand-carried items.
