2 SUB BRANCH Hello my name is Cory Rinaldi and I m the President of the Cronulla RSL Sub-Brach. This year marks the 92nd Anniversary of the Cronulla RSL Sub-Branch. Our membership sits at 308 members with new membership enquiries weekly. For those who don t realise, Cronulla RSL Sub-Branch and the Cronulla RSL Memorial Club are not the same. The separation came about in the sale of the premises in Even though we are separate organisations we still believe in the traditions and legacy of the RSL. Of our 308 members, 94 are of those are of the WW2 era. A goal of the previous President, Warren Thomas, was to ensure that the WW2 Veteran s welfare was looked after and that they enjoy their twilight years amongst fellow Sub-Branch members. He also wanted to show them that the legacy they took over from their predecessors will continue well on after they have all gone. The Cronulla RSL Sub-Branch still follow the mission statement of the NSW RSL To provide for the well-being, care, compensation and commemoration of serving and ex-serving Defence Force personnel and their dependants and promote Government and Community awareness of the need for a stable and progressive Australia, and especially with a new generation of veterans needing help, we open our doors to ensure they get the guidance and support they need. Our Committee of who are all volunteers consists of many younger Veterans in Executive positions and our General Meeting which takes place on the first Monday of each month are staying steady at 35 members attending. We also have our Night Chapter meeting, which takes place on a Wednesday night every 3 months. This ensures that members still serving or working are able to take part in the Sub-Branch. If you have served in the military and or, are still serving and want to enjoy the company of other likeminded people, please contact our Office Manager Ms Irene Higley on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday between 9:30am - 2:30pm. 3 CEO S WELCOME Once again our Marketing team has been working very hard behind the scenes to make July and August exciting at our Club. We have plenty of Entertainment on offer in July and August so please see our guide for further information. You asked, we listened, so please come! We will also have a free Members raffle on Friday nights in July starting at 6.30pm... yep you heard it FREE! We are also proud to announce the Club s involvement with the Lungs in Action program specifically aimed at helping people to stay out of hospital with targeted exercise. Our Carlton Draught Bucket List promotion has been a wonderful success with many member s ticking off their bucket list with some great adventures, our next promotion see the Club giving away a trip to Hawaii, thank you Canadian Club and Jim Beam! Now something a little different from our wine dinners, we are holding a Whiskies of the World event. Our host for the night will explain where the whiskies are made and how they are made, it will be very interesting! On the building front currently with Sutherland Council is our Deck Roof DA and our Pylon Signage DA. Both have completed their submission period and we await advice now from Council. 23 COMMUNITY NEWS CROCHETED POPPIES PRESENTED TO CRONULLA RSL SUB-BRANCH IN HONOR OF LOCAL SOLDIERS In celebration of 100 years of ANZAC, there were many commemorations in the Sutherland Shire One of these moving gestures included local residents crocheting over 400 red poppies representing each of the soldiers who served from the local area. These poppies were laid by school children at the base of a symbolic cross during the 2015 dawn service held in Cronulla park. Each poppy stem had the soldiers name, rank and where they served. This morning Scott Morrison presented the Cronulla RSL Sub-Branch with a beautiful frame housing a collection of these poppies, again including all the names of the soldiers that served. Now displayed in the Club entrance way, Cronulla RSL has been entrusted to take care of these symbolic poppies for future generations to reflect upon. As a symbol of the service and sacrifice of those who came from the local area in which we live today. SOLUTION TO REDUCE NOISE OUTPUT ON THE DECK A new development application has been submitted to council for the construction of a metal framed canopy to cover most of the seating area on the sun deck. The canopy will be given acoustic treatment to mitigate noise and will allow 200 patrons to enjoy the terrace deck at Cronulla RSL. The fixed roof will also be a great benefit in extreme heat and bad weather, allowing patrons to still enjoy the sun deck when the weather may not otherwise permit outdoor dining or socialising. With an aim to retain the outdoor feeling, the new canopy has been treated by a sound engineer to ensure noise output is reduced for local residents. Cronulla RSL looks forward to releasing more information regarding construction dates once the plans have been approved by council.
