Kathmandu is the capital and largest metropolitan city of Nepal. The city is the urban core of the Kathmandu Valley in the Himalayas, which also contains two sister cities namely Patan or Lalitpur, 5 kilometres to its southeast and Bhaktapur, 14 kilometres to its east. 3 The Itinerary Day 5: Pokhara - Kathmandu Delhi, India (B) After breakfast depart for Kathmandu by surface. On arrival transfer to the international airport to board a flight for Delhi. On arrival to Delhi be greeted by a meet and assist representative to escort you by a private car to the Hotel with further assistance at check in. While the room keys and check-in is organized, a representative will hand over the Welcome Folder documents and brief you the tour programme. Overnight: Delhi (Standard or Premium Hotel Day 6: Delhi City Tour (B) After breakfast, start a city tour of Old and New Delhi visiting Raj Ghat (where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated); Red Fort (made famous by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan); and Jama Masjid (the largest mosque in India) which has three great gateways, four angle towers and two minarets constructed of alternating vertical strips of red sandstone and white marble. Chandni Chowk is the main street of Old Delhi in the colourful shopping bazaar. Next up is Laxminarayan Temple, a site dedicated to Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and good fortune. 4 The Itinerary Morning excursion to the Royal Amber Fort - Amber is located at a distance of 11 kilometres from Jaipur and was the old fort of the Kachhwaha clan of Amber, which used to be the capital, till it was moved to Jaipur. The fort is built with white marble and red sandstone and look even more attractive because of the Maota Lake in the foreground. The fort in itself is a beautiful sight to behold but as one looks on the fort with its clear reflection on the lake in the front, one cannot help but wonder if it is a dream or a beautiful illusion. Afternoon city tour visiting City Palace, the former royal residence built in a blend of the Rajasthani and Mughal styles. Jantar Mantar, is the largest of the five observatories built by Sawai Jai Singh. Other occupants are elephants displaced from their natural environment by development projects or those found wounded. Visitors can see the baby elephants being fed milk from gigantic feeding bottles or bathed in the river, which flows nearby an unforgettable sight! Established in 1975, by the Wildlife Department and National Zoological gardens, which subsequently led to a breeding programme which more than twenty five elephants have been born since Afterwards continue on to Kandy to check-in to the hotel. Colombo the trade and commercial capital has long been the traditional gateway to the Orient. Sri Lanka s largest city, it is located on the west coast and draws together all the cultures, religions and influences of foreign lands into a potpourri of sounds, smells and a kaleidoscope of colour. The original traders and settlers - the Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch and the British have left in their wake churches and monuments, names and religions, costumes and food and smatterings of their languages which have been absorbed into the speech of the Sri Lankan. A less known but amazingly true fact is that Colombo has a superb range of high quality restaurants serving food from all over the world and some of the best shopping opportunities in Asia. The main seaport of Sri Lanka is in Colombo & adjoining it, are Pettah, a local bazaar and trading area. Its oozes colonial charm with an eclectic range of low rise European architecture, tucked down a lace of narrow lanes and alleyways. The tour is part driven and part walking and covers the important highlights within the fort. These include the thick walled ramparts that withstood the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.
