Jakarta The Special Capital Territory of Jakarta (Indonesian: Daerah Khusus Ibu Kota Jakarta), wellknown as Jakarta, is the capital and the largest city of Indonesia. Located on the northwest coast of Java, Jakarta is the country's economic, political, and cultural center. With its population of 10,187,595 as of November 2011, it is the most populous city in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia, as well as the twelfth-largest city in the world. Established in the fourth century CE, the city once was an important trading port for the Kingdom of Sunda. It was later become the de facto capital of the Dutch East Indies (when it was known as Batavia) in the 17 th century, and has continued as the capital of Indonesia since the country's independence was declared in 17 August Jakarta offers a wide range of entertainment, from historic places such as the Dutch s Stadhuis (now Jakarta History Museum) and several museums surrounding it, including Maritime Museum, Wayang/Shadow Puppet Museum, and Fine Art and Ceramic Museum in the Old Town of Jakarta (Indonesian: Kota Tua Jakarta), to its vibrant nightlife and high-end fashion shopping centers. Jakarta is famous for its iconic landmarks, namely The National Monument (Indonesian: Monumen 15

16 Nasional or Monas), the Jakarta Welcome Statue (Indonesian: Patung Selamat Datang), Istiqlal Mosque, and Jakarta Cathedral. Moreover, as the melting pot of Indonesia s various ethnics and races, the city is a home to various cuisines that represent regional specialties of Indonesia Bali Bali is a province of Indonesia, covering few small neighboring islands and the isle of Bali. The main island is located in the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, lying between Java to the west and Lombok to the east. It is one of the country's 34 provinces with the provincial capital at Denpasar towards the south of the island. With a population recorded as 4.22 million, the island is home to most of Indonesia's Hindu minority. According to the 2010 Census, 84.5% of Bali's population adhered to Balinese Hinduism while most of the remainder followed Islam. Bali is also the largest tourist destination in the country and is renowned for its highly developed arts, including traditional and modern dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking, and music. A tourist haven for decades, the city has seen a further surge in tourist numbers in recent years. The tourism industry is primarily focused in the south, while significant in the other parts of the island as well. The main tourist locations are the town of Kuta beach, and its outer suburbs of Legian and Seminyak, the east coast town of Sanur, in the center of the island Ubud, to the south of the Ngurah Rai International Airport, Jimbaran, and the newer development of Nusa Dua and Pecatu. Bali received the Best Island award from Travel and Leisure in The island of Bali won because of its attractive surroundings (both mountain and coastal areas), diverse tourist attractions, excellent international and local restaurants, and the friendliness of the local people. According to BBC Travel released in 2011, Bali is one of the World's Best Islands, rank in second after Greece. In August 2010, the film version of Eat, Pray, Love (EPL) was released in theaters. The movie was based on Elizabeth Gilbert's best-selling memoir of the same name. It took place at Ubud and Padang-Padang Beach at Bali. The 2006 book, which spent 57 weeks at the No. 1 spot on the New York Times paperback nonfiction best-seller list, had already fueled a boom in EPL tourism in Ubud, the hill town and cultural and tourist center that was the focus of Gilbert's quest for balance through traditional spirituality and healing that leads to love. Since 2011, China has displaced Japan as the second-largest supplier of tourists to Bali, while Australia still tops the list. Chinese tourists increased by 17% from last year due to the impact of ACFTA and new direct flights to Bali.[38] In January 2012, Chinese tourists year on year (yoy) increased by % compared to January 2011, while Japanese tourists declined by 23.54% yoy. 16

17 Bali reported that it has 2.88 million foreign tourists and 5 million domestic tourists in 2012, marginally surpassing the expectations of 2.8 million foreign tourists. Forecasts for 2013 are at 3.1 million Useful Telephone Numbers City emergency services: Police : 110 Ambulance : 118 Firefighter : 113 Free local information desk (24h) : 108 Lost and found baggage: Soekarno Hatta Airport Terminal 2: (tel: / ) Dialing Indonesian numbers from outside Indonesia: country code (+62), area code (21 or other), telephone number (7 or 8 digits) Dialing Indonesian mobile phone numbers from your mobile phone during your visit to Indonesia: country code (+62), enter the Indonesian mobile phone number, excluding the "0" from the beginning of the number, which is a prefix for calling domestically.
