The country is divided into the geographical areas of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Its capital, the City of Manila, is located in Luzon. Time Zone The Philippines is located with a single time Zone 8 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+8:00) Weather A tropical country, Philippines has 2 seasons namely dry and rainy season. During your stay in the country, it would be the start of summer season so expect a hot/humid weather. Highest temperature is around 32 degrees celcius while the lowest temperature is 21 degrees celcius and 58% humidity. Currency and Banking System The currency of the Philippines is called Philippine Peso (PHP). The basic unit is 1 PHP. Coinage consists of 0.25, 0.50, 1, 5, and 10 while bank notes come in denominations of 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1,000 Php. Average conversion rate for USD to PHP is: 1 PHP=0.020 USD/ 1USD=49.55 PHP (AS OF 17 APRIL 2017) Country Code The country code for the Philippines is +63. If a phone number is listed as , a caller from outside the Philippines have to dial Voltage In the Philippines, the voltage is AC 220 V with a frequency of 60 HZ around the country. The usual power plug socket used in the Philippines is shown below: Emergency Call 117 is the national emergency telephone number for the Philippines managed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government. Town Center is marketed as the "first and only university town center" in the Philippines primarily targeting students from universities and other educational institutions along Katipunan Avenue such as the University of the Philippines Diliman, Ateneo de Manila University, and Miriam College. Initially, shortly after the first phase of the complex was opened, most of the tenants were restaurants and other dining outlets. In November 2013, there were 30 tenants with 28 of them being dining outlets and only two being retail stores. By this time Ayala Malls were reportedly prioritizing new restaurant and dining brands over popular fast-food chains and restaurants since many of these brands already have outlets along Katipunan Avenue. Upon the completion of the second phase, numerous retail brands primarily selling fashion, sports, tech, and stationery goods or services targeting millennials opened stores at the U.P. Town Center. U.P. Town Center also has a supermarket, named Merkado Supermarket. Merkado Supermarket is a joint venture between Ayala and Puregold and the outlet in the shopping complex is the first outlet under the brand name.

5 2) Araneta Center The Araneta Center hosts numerous shopping establishments including the Ali Mall, Farmers Plaza, Gateway Mall, Shopwise, Puregold, and SM Cubao. The Gateway Tower, a mixed-used building is adjacent to the Gateway Mall, adding 18,000 square meters, known as the Gateway Tower Mall, and The Aurora Tower, houses Isetann in its 7 floors. A marketplace called the Farmer's Market is also hosted in the area. 3) Eastwood City Mall Eastwood Mall is a shopping and dining paradise at par with the world s best. Awarded the Best Shopping Center of the Year in 2010 and 2012 by the Philippine Retailers Association, Eastwood Mall houses chef-driven restaurants offering al fresco dining as well as state-of-the art cinemas, which are among the finest and the most sought-after in the country. Tourist Areas in Manila ( Even within Heritage districts such as RIZAL PARK and INTRAMUROS, you won t be far from a branch of local fast-food giant, JOLLIBEE. University students pile out of KALESAS, then walk the Old Fort s walls to get to class. The LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT (LRT) trundles past as families picnic on LUNETA park grass. Like passengers in a JEEPNEY, the past, present and future sit shoulder to shoulder, flying down Manila s streets. Get on the same ride. You can sit back, safe, as the city flashes past you or you can put your head out, let your hair fly in the wind and see where the city takes you. When the SPANIARDS arrived in the 1500 S, they built a walled city in place of the KUTA (FORT) of RAJAH SOLIMAN. This city is now known as INTRAMUROS, one of the best models of a medieval fort outside Europe. INTRAMUROS contains the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site SAN AGUSTIN CHURCH and the SAN AGUSTIN MUSEUM. The compound contains fine religious artifacts and relics from the galleon trade from treasure chests to ivory SANTOS (SAINTS) to gold embroidered vestments. JUAN LUNA, one of the greatest filipino painters, is interred here. CASA MANILA, a

6 lifestyle museum replicated from an 1800 s home, is also in the area. The GUARDS AND THE OWNERS OF THE CALESAS (HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGES) are dressed in period costumes so take a picture with them. The Philippines first hotel is also located here. Established in 1912, the MANILA HOTEL is grand, classic, and historical, having hosted famous personalities like GEN. DOUGLAS MACARTHUR, MARLON BRANDO, and the BEATLES. You can ride a calesa through the historic streets of BINONDO and ERMITA. In BINONDO, taste your way through CHINATOWN, which is said to be the oldest CHINESE SETTLEMENT IN THE WORLD, HAVING BEEN ESTABLISHED IN THE LATE 16 TH CENTURY. Have a sampling of authentic Fujian and Cantonese cuisine. But don t forget to look outside the restaurants too; you will see vendors of dragon fruits and other tropical fruits at bargain prices. Then walk a few blocks to try your luck at the wholesaler s haven of DIVISORIA, where the more you buy, the cheaper it gets! We know it s a cliché, but we really do have the best sunsets in MANILA BAY. Take a walk down ROXAS BOULEVARD and see it for yourself. Each day it seems like a different sun. down on a picnic mat or buy a kite. You can find many of the city s significant landmarks off of this boulevard. RIZAL PARK, also known as LUNETA, is the most important shrine in the country as well a great place to watch the locals spend their weekend. Settle Also of importance in the area the NATIONAL MUSEUM. The museum holds the most extensive exhibit of galleon trade relics in the Philippines and illustrates the origins of the Filipino people. But even without stepping inside, the NATIONAL MUSEUM itself is a beauty of neo-classical architecture. You might find an IHAWAN (hawker-style grill) that serves the tastiest barbecues or maybe an old book you haven t found elsewhere. Strike up a conversation with a MANILEÑO and see what makes them tick. Join a round of KARAOKE or beat an old man at chess. Whatever Manila you find, drink to it with a cold glass of San Miguel beer.
