Tel: (Ich'on Ceramics Cooperative) P'anmunjom and its Vicinity One of the most unusual destinations in the world, the site where the 1953 Armistice Treaty was signed stands in the Joint Security Area (JSA) in the middle of the DMZ, highlighting the severe reality of the divided Korean Peninsula. Though on-going conferences of the Military Armistice Commission (MAC) and peaceful contacts between the North and the South Korea have been held here, visitors, escorted and briefed by the military guides, come to breathe the distinct tension pervading all the facilities and persons on duty. Discovered in the South Korean territory off the DMZ near P'anmunjom in 1978, the North Korean 3rd Tunnel is one of the several underground tunnels dug under the DMZ by the North Korea for the purpose of infiltrating troops into South Korea in case of hostilities. It is deep under the surface and tourists are invited to descend to the bottom to view it for themselves. Open: Mon.-Fri.
