Provisional data Overnight stays in hotel establishment increase 1.3% in January with respect to the same month in 217 Hotels invoice an average of 8.5 euros per occupied room, representing an annual increase of 2.4% During the month of January, there were 15.3 million overnight stays in hotel establishments, 1.3% more than in the same month of 217. Overnight stays by residents in Spain increased by 2.3% and those of non-residents did so by.8%. The average stay decreased 1.6% as compared with January 217, standing at 3. overnight stays per traveller. 2 Destinations Andalucía, Comunidad de Madrid, Cataluña and Comunitat Valenciana were the main destinations of residents in Spain in January, with annual variation rates in the number of overnight stays of.8%, 4.6%, -.7% and -1.%, respectively Distribution of overnight stays: Residents in % Andalucía C. de Madrid Cataluña Comunitat Valenciana Canarias Aragón Castilla y León 4.5 Galicia 3.8 País Vasco 3. Castilla-La Mancha Murcia, Región de Extremadura Asturias, Principado de Balears, Illes Navarra, Comunidad Foral de Cantabria Rioja, La.2.2 The main destination chosen by non-residents was Canarias, with 53.3% of total overnight stays. In this Autonomous Community, overnight stays of foreign nationals decreased by 2.2% as compared with January 217. The following destinations of non-residents were Cataluña (with 13.9% of the total overnight stays and an increase of 4.9%) and Andalucía (with 11.3% of the total and an increase of 4.2%). 3 Hotel occupancy In January, 45.9% of the available bed-places were occupied, indicating an annual increase of 1.5%. The weekend occupancy rate by bed-places increased 1.2%, standing at 49.3%. 4 By tourist areas, the South of Gran Canaria registered the highest occupancy rate by bedplaces (8.5%), and the island of La Gomera registered the highest weekend occupancy rate (81.8%). The tourist area of the Tenerife island registered the highest number of overnight stays, with more than 2. million. The tourist places with more overnight stays were Madrid, Barcelona and San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Arona reached the highest occupancy rate by bed-places (82.2%) and San Bartolomé de Tirajana registered the highest weekend occupancy rate (81.5%). Overnight stays according to the country of residence of the arrivals In January, arrivals from the United Kingdom and Germany accounted for 22.4% and 18.6% of total overnight stays of non-residents in hotel establishments, respectively. The British market decreased by 4.1%, and the German market did so by 6.2%. 5 Hotel Prices The annual rate of the Hotel Price Index (HPI) stood at 3.1% in January, which is 1.3 points less than the previous month and 3.6 points below that registered a year ago. Annual variation rate Feb-17 Mar-17 Apr-17 May-17 Jun-17 Jul-17 Aug-17 Sep-17 Oct-17 Nov-17 Dec-17 Jan-18 In January, Canarias, Cataluña, Comunidad de Madrid and Andalucía were the Autonomous Communities with the greatest weighting in the HPI (they represented 8.6% of the total weight). Hotel prices increased by 5.1% in the annual rate in Comunidad de Madrid, 4.2% in Canarias and 2.7% in Andalucía. In Cataluña they remained unchanged (.%). By category, hotel prices increased in all of them. In one-silver-star hotels (5.6%), twogolden-star hotels (5.1%), one-golden-star hotels (3.8%), three-golden-star hotels (3.5%), four-golden-star hotels (3.2%), three and two-silver-star hotels (3.%) and in five-golden-star hotels (2.%). Profitability of the Hotel Sector The average daily rate per occupied room (ADR) of hotels was 8.5 euros in January, representing a 2.4% increase as compared with the same month of 217. Meanwhile, the average daily revenue per available room (RevPAR), which is conditioned by the occupancy registered in hotel establishments, reached 42.9 euros, with a 1.% increase. By category, the average rate was 17.4 euros for five-star hotels, 85.6 euros for four-star hotels and 61.5 euros for three-star hotels. Revenues per available room for these same categories were 11.1, 53.1 and 34.4 euros, respectively. HTST -JANUARY 218 (5/6)
