Each class is tailored to exploring its particular locality, but also covers the fundamentals of bundle dyeing on both textiles and paper. Though, as travellers, we work small, the techniques learned may be applied to larger projects when participants return to their own studios. On sunny days we spend time outside making experiential wanderings. If the weather dictates, some work will take place indoors.

4 Page 4 of 10 Ålesund differs from most other Norwegian cities with its large concentration of buildings in the Jugend style of architecture (also known as Art Nouveau). It is a style characterized by artistic playfulness, fetching inspiration from organic forms. The first landscape hotel in Europe is situated in the farmstead of Burtigarden farm at Alstad in Valldal, on a steep, natural levee amongst birch, aspen, pine and age-old boulders. Juvet Landscape Hotel Alstad, Valldal, MØRE OG ROMSDAL, NO, DAY 3: JUVET + STUDIO DAY WITH INDIA - SEPTEMBER 25 Breakfast Lunch Hotel Included Using cloth, stitch, paper and locally gathered plant dyes (from weeds and windfalls) along with drawing, writing, mark-making and paper-folding techniques (developed especially for the class) we build a series of small and intricate workbooks mapping the journey of our time together. We record our experiences through dyeing, drawing and painting as well as through poetry and story, developing a vocabulary of marks from the landscape and gathering a rich resource of words and images to take forward into other work. We will also work on a journey cloth that doubles as a shawl, hand stitch a tsunubukuro bag and hand twine some cord from dyed cloth remnants.

5 Walking is an essential component of our work. There may be music as well as rich silences. Times of deep listening, experiential drawing and the gathering of "gorgeous nothings"...spontaneous poetry noted while wandering, as well as gentle group performances of aleatory poetry created by reading aloud together. Through engaging deeply with place, we find a way home into ourselves. Page 5 of 10 Juvet Hotel Facilities This is where the magic begins! Juvet's spa is pure tranquility.. here is where you can leave your busy life behind and take in all of the quiet beauty that surrounds. Built into the land by the river, invisible from the farmyard, but still only a few short steps away from your accommodations. Nothing feels as good as pure, fresh mountain water. According to legend, those who drink from the waters in Olav s well in Alstad will stay healthy and youthful. Using the bathing facilities at Juvet you are enjoying the magical properties of clean, fresh and invigorating mountain water. The spa area itself is in dark concrete, but the small rooms are painted in beautiful colours to conjure up the impression of being in a cave. The facade is a 15 metrelong glass sheet facing the flowing river as it winds its way up under Juvet. It is as though the river is graciously greeting us here while en route towards the fjord 15 kilometres below. The bathing facilities include
