3 Cape Town Overview Where it is:- Situated at the south-western tip of South Africa and the African continent Cape Town is about 1400km (870mi) from Johannesburg by road and 1600km (994mi) from Durban (both about a two-hour flight away). How to get there:- As one of the world s most visited tourist cities, Cape Town is directly connected to major cities in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa. Cape Town International Airport has undergone an extensive upgrade following the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It is the 2nd largest airport in South Africa and the 3rd largest on the African continent. Sixteen international airlines fly into Cape Town International Airport from global hubs like Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Atlanta and London. Many others fly into Johannesburg, which is a two-hour domestic flight from Cape Town. On average there are flights every two hours between the two cities with avariety of domestic carriers.
