Our Scarborough Community Chamber partners with the town to offer a free seven-week concert series at Memorial Park in July and August with music spanning from the Beatles to 80s music. The Landing at Pine Point offers a full concert venue in a renovated church. A NASCAR fan? Beech Ridge Speedway is described as New England s premier short-track speedway with a third-mile asphalt oval raceway open from April to September. If you want to be in the driver s seat, try your skills at Maine Indoor Karting. Looking for some activity? Enjoy the sport of candlepin bowling, a game unique to New England, at the Big 20 Bowling Center on Route 1. The Nonesuch Golf Course and Willowdale Golf Course are affordable public golf courses with comfortable clubhouses to enjoy a beverage and discuss your latest round.

Canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts leisurely explore the beauty and nature found in over 3,000 acres of marshes and rivers. The area is a popular destination for birdwatchers. Maine Audubon has a seasonal Nature Center located on the Scarborough Marsh. In addition, Scarborough has many miles of trails and conservation land for hiking, biking, skiing, snowshoeing and horseback riding with some popular sites being Fuller Farm, the Eastern Trail and the Scarborough Wildlife Sanctuary.

8 Discover the history of Scarborough through the artists and landmarks that have continued to shape the area for over 365 years. Revel in the paintings of Winslow Homer, created from his studio on Prouts Neck, where he resided from 1883 until his death in During this period, Homer created some of the finest examples of American art which are known worldwide. His 1894 painting Weatherbeaten depicts a coastal scene, which can be experienced at the Cliff Walk on Prouts Neck. An historic inn, also on Prouts Neck, The Black Point Inn, existed during the time of Winslow Homer. The Scarborough Historical Society has an extensive collection of paintings by Roger Deering done during the 1920s. Deering, a local artist, created depictions of the Sagamore natives of Owascoag (native name of Scarborough) circa The oldest landmark in Scarborough is the Hunnewell House, built in 1684 by Richard Hunnewell. He and a group of other men were herding their animals on October 6, 1703, when ambushed by native Indians near Massacre Pond. The Dunstan area of Scarborough hosts the town s Civil War Monument, one of 148 located in Maine, dedicated June 21, It is believed that 161 Civil War soldiers were from Scarborough.
