2 Meeting Announcement and Draft Agenda ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22/WG4 - COBOL Meeting 28: 28 through 31 October 2008 Co-located with INCITS/PL22.4 Meeting 268: 26 and 27 October, 31 October 2008 Meeting 28 of WG4 will be held 28 through 31 October 2008 (Tuesday through Friday) at the Best Western Ontario Airport hotel in Ontario, California, USA. See Meeting Logistics below for details. WG4 meeting 28 is co-located with a PL22.4 COBOL Task Group meeting. The combined WG4 and PL22.4 meeting dates and times are: PL Sunday, 26 October: 2:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. PDT PL Monday, 27 October: 8:30 a.m. 6:00 p.m. PDT WG4 Tuesday, 28 October through Thursday, 30 October: 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. PDT WG4 Friday, 31 October: 8:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. PDT PL22.4 Friday, 31 October: 2:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. PDT WG4 delegates are invited to participate in the PL22.4 Task Group sessions. The primary objective of this meeting is the resolution of CD comments on the revision of ISO/IEC 1989:2002. A preliminary agenda is provided below. Attendees at the WG4 portions of the meeting must be officially appointed delegates of their national body. If you want to attend WG4 sessions, please contact your national body. Vineyard Ave. Ontario, CA USA Phone: (909) Fax: (909) Hotel information: The Best Western Ontario Airport hotel has all non-smoking rooms. The room rate is $89.00 plus tax for a "Business Plus" room. These rooms have a small refrigerator, a microwave oven, and wired high-speed internet. Please make your room reservations by 29 September, 2008, and state that you are with the "COBOL-WG4" meeting. The hotel does not have an elevator, so you might want to request a room on the first floor if stairs are a problem for you. Hotel amenities include: Outdoor swimming pool Shuttle service to and from the Ontario airport Shuttle service to and from the Ontario Mills mall Meals: The hotel provides a complimentary continental breakfast. We will have coffee, beverages, and snacks in the meeting room. Three restaurants are within a 5-minute walk. A rental car is not essential, but would enable a greater choice of restaurants. Weather: The weather in Ontario at this time of year is pleasant. Average high temperatures in October are 87 degrees F, and average lows are 56 degrees F. There is a small chance of precipitation. Directions and Transportation: Directions from Ontario airport (ONT): Exit airport. Turn left on E. Airport drive. Within a mile, turn right on S. Vineland Ave. The hotel will be on your left within a quarter mile. A complimentary hotel shuttle is available 24 hours a day. Phone the main hotel number when you arrive at the airport. Directions from Los Angeles Airport (LAX): Exit airport and follow signs to Sepulveda south/i-105 east. Take I-105 east. After 16 miles, Take I-605 north. Go 12 miles to I-10. Take I-10 east 23 miles. Exit N. Vineyard Ave. Go 1/5 mile to the hotel on the right.

4 Area Attractions: Shopping: The Best Western Ontario Airport hotel is three miles from the Ontario Mills shopping mall, the largest single-story mall west of the Mississippi under one roof. Montclair plaza, another local mall, is about 5 miles away. Ontario Antiques in Downtown Ontario has over 70 antique dealers and stalls. Palm Springs: Ontario is only an hour from Palm Springs. Palm Springs, California s answer to Las Vegas, has Indian Gambling, boutique shops, hiking, biking, restaurants, and shows. Easily worth a day trip. Planes of Fame Museum: Planes of Fame Air Museum is an aviation museum dedicated to collecting, restoring, displaying, and preserving aircraft and memorabilia. Currently, Planes of Fame houses over 150 aircraft at its two locations, the main facility at Chino Airport in California and a satellite museum near the Grand Canyon at Valle Airport in Arizona. Planes of Fame Air Museum is about 8 miles south of the Best Western Ontario Airport hotel. Los Angeles Fairplex, LA County Fairgrounds in Pomona: 8 miles west of the Best Western Ontario Airport hotel. Two events on dates adjacent to the meeting: October -- Computer Fair - Hundreds of computer related items at wholesale prices. General admission is $8 and free for ages 10 and younger. 31 October 1 November -- West Coast Historical Militaria Collectors Show - Huge assortments of superior historical militaria antiques and related collectibles from all time periods and countries, more than 300 tables and 100 dealers. California Speedway: 10 miles from the Best Western Ontario Airport hotel -- NASCAR and other racing events in Fontana Other attractions: Major theme parks are approximately 30 miles from the Best Western Ontario Airport hotel (Raging Waters in San Dimas, Knott's Berry Farm in Anaheim, and Disneyland in Anaheim).
