1 Patient Education Patient Family Housing Housing options University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) provides care for many patients who live outside of the Seattle area. This handout explains how to find housing while receiving medical care at UWMC. Find more information online at: org Program The Program at University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) provides information to help families find accommodations while they are receiving medical care at the hospital. Lodging can be costly near the medical center. Hotels range from $55 (plus tax) to over $100 (plus tax). To help you find a place to stay, this handout offers a list of quality discounted housing options. You may also want to consider staying with a relative or friend. Alaska and Other Medicaid Patients Contact your Medicaid provider to see if you are eligible for housing and transportation assistance. Arrangements and approval for Medicaid coverage for transportation and housing must be made before coming to UWMC for treatment. If you do not make these arrangements ahead of time, you may have to pay for housing and transportation yourself. Not all out-ofstate Medicaid programs pay for housing. Contracted Housing UWMC has contracted with the Nexus Hotel at Northgate to provide comfortable, low-cost housing. The quality of these rooms is the same as the other rooms at the hotel. Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis. Be sure to mention that you are with UWMC. Please call as early as possible to reserve contract housing. There are a limited number of rooms available at the contract price. The hotel may not be able to guarantee that you will get the contract price every night of your stay.

Northgate Way Toll-free in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington: The Nexus has: 15 rooms with refrigerator and microwave at a contract rate of $47 plus tax per night. 10 rooms with refrigerator and microwave at a contract rate of $52 plus tax per night. 10 rooms with refrigerator and microwave at a contract rate of $69 plus tax per night. If no contract rooms are available, non-contract rates for medical center patients and families start at $89 plus tax per night, depending on availability. If you cannot get a contract room when you register, you may request to be transferred to one when it becomes available. Or, you may call one of the hotels listed below in the Overnight Accommodation section of this handout as an alternative place to stay until a contract room is available. If you change your plans and don t need your reservation, please cancel as soon as possible to avoid being charged for the room. This will also free the room for someone else. If you need to stay longer than expected, please tell the hotel staff as soon as possible. They will make every effort to see that you receive the contract rate for your entire stay, but may not be able to guarantee it. If this contracted housing does not meet your needs, you may call one of the hotels listed below in Overnight Accommodations. Overnight Accommodations The list that begins on page 3 includes hotels near UWMC. It is provided as a resource for patients and families and is not an endorsement of these hotels. Please note that the listed room rates do not include tax, and change often. Verify the current rate and ask about shuttle destinations and schedules when you call the hotel. Some of these hotels offer discounted rates for UWMC patients and families, so be sure to let them know that you are a patient or a family member of a patient when you call, and ask if there is a discount.
