Myron Myron was an Athenian sculptor from the mid-5th century BC BC Myron worked in bronze only,and even though he made some statues of gods and heroes,he was best known for his many studies of athletes in action The Early Imperial Roman writers consistently rated Myron among the greatest of Greek sculptors Of his many works, only two representations survive. 6 Famous art (cont.) An early example of contrapposto styled art made by Polykleitos. Contrapposto is when the statue would be putting all of his or her weight on one leg, making it a symbol of Greek sculpture. Polykleitos introduced the style of creating perfectly symmetrical statues of naked men and woman, like in his most famous piece, Doryphoros. Augustus of Prime Porta, another famous sculpture, comparable to Doryphoros Doryphoros

7 What were the types of Greek columns? The top of the columns are called the Capitol The three major styles are Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian Doric are the most plain, but are very sturdy and thick. Mainly used in mainland Greece and Greece colonies in southern Italy and Sicily Doric columns were used in the famous Parthenon

8 Greek Columns (cont.) Ionic columns were thinner and elegant Decorated with a scroll like design on the capitol of column Corinthian were the most ornate columns, decorated with acanthus leaves carved into the Capitol We're less popular in Ancient Greece, mainly used in Ancient Rome

10 What is the The Parthenon? BC Temple on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece. It was dedicated to the Greek Goddess Athen. People of Athens considered their Parton deity. Construction began in 447, completed in 438 BC and decoration of the building in 432 BC. Its one of the important survival building in Greek Art and its known as a treasury like most temples in Greece.
