1 About These Data This file contains the 100% count of total population for the municipalities in Allegheny County for the decennial years 1930 to The 100% count of population comes from the questions asked of all persons in each decennial census. Municipalities no longer in existence are included. The "Notation" section contains the following items: (1). Revisions are sometimes made to population figures that were previously published; this spreadsheet contains the revised population figures. Municipalities that have a revised population figure for a particular decennial census year have the entry "Population revision" in column "Type of Notation". Column "Notation" has the original population and the revised population, as well as the reference year. (2). During the time span of 80 years encompassed by these data, some municipalities had name changes. Municipalities that had a name change have the entry "Name change" in column "Type of Notation". A municipality may have had more than one name change. Column "Notation" has the year or time period when the name change occurred and the previous name. (3). Also, during the time span, some municipalities had boundary changes. Municipalities that had a boundary change have the entry "Boundary change" in column "Type of Notation". A municipality may have had more than one boundary change. The worksheet describes a boundary change as an area being annexed; the use of the term annexed is not the legal definition but merely to show that a municipality had a boundary change and thus has gained or lost area. Included in this category are municipalities that have been incorporated from other municipalities. Included in this category are municipalities that have been disincorporated and, thus, are no longer legal entities and were absorbed by another municipality. Column "Notation" identifies the year or time period when the boundary change occurred. This category usually has dual entries the municipality that gained area and the municipality that lost area.
