15 ENVIORMENTAL POLICY We communicate all our actions through flyers, displays in the hotel, on our Information Board, through internet (homepage and social media channels) and throughout local and international media: Informing customers about all our actions (environmental, social etc.) effects of the hotel, with in intention to encourage their active participation. In our kid s club children are also educated in environmental care by a special day dealing only with this topic and they are invited from our gardeners to help planting vegetables in our ecologic garden. Regarding this, it is also our goal to raise the attention of our guests, by informing them about the unique nature of Crete. The hotel gives a great importance not only the for the guests obvious efforts in energy and waste saving but also in the sensitization of the nature. 17 SUSTAINIBLE LOCAL COMMUNITIES Sitia UNESCO Global Geopark is located in the Municipality of Sitia. Inside Sitia UNESCO Global Geopark, various activities and infrastructure for the support of geotourism and ecotourism have been developed. The most important of them concern the creation of the local Natural History Museum of Zakros and the Speleological Centre in Karydi, the production of printed and electronic materials and the signposting and promotion of a series of geotrails throughout the expanse of the Nature Park, connecting geological monuments, habitats, as well as historical, cultural and other tourist sites in the area, with the beautiful hamlets of the Park. Educational activities in Sitia UNESCO Global Geopark are offered both by the Park s staff and the Environmental Educational Center of Ierapetra which is located just southwest of the Park at the town of Ierapetra. Under a transnational project, two educational projects have been developed in the form of museum kits that are available at the two centers.
