Ancient Issa was an economic accessible by bridges from both sides. In the 3rd century BC, Tra- and urban center of the Dalmatian coast. Croatian historian Grga No- gurion was founded by Greek colonists from the island of Vis and vak states the year of 397 AD as a possible birthday of this ancient by Roman times it developed into a major port. The name comes polis, which would make it the oldest town in Croatia. Before it was from the Greek word tragos, meaning male goat, and the layout of conquered by the Roman Empire, Issa functioned as an independent orthogonal street plan dates back to the Hellenistic period. Because polis and had its own colonies on nearby islands. Today, the town of of the town s Venetian architecture that remained intact throughout Vis offers multiple cultural sights, but is mostly known for nautical the ages, Trogir was added to UNESCO World Heritage List in tourism. Romantic and unique, this city will make you fall in love with it in a heartbeat. Vis is a small Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea and the farthest inhabited island off the Croatian mainland. The surface area of the island is 90 square kilometers. Two large bays, St. George on the northern and Komiža Bay on the western side of the island are indented deeply in the Vis trapezium. The island s two largest settlements are the town of Vis on the eastern side (the settlement after which the island was originally named), and Komiža, on its western coast.

01 Saturday Komiža Komiža is a town located at the foot of the hill Hum (587 m). Due to its location, Komiža s development was naturally fostered by fishing and fish processing. The fishermen from Komiža were famous around the world and were even exporting fish to the ports of North and South America. They are also known for using their falkuša vessels. It is a traditional boat, a subtype of gajeta, which was adapted to the specific needs of fisherman who went on long fishing expeditions in the open seas. There are also well preserved historical sites such as the Saint Nicolas Monastery, which was established by the Benedictines in the 13th century. The oldest part of the monastery is a Romanesque church with a single nave and a semi-circular apse. Later on, other parts of the monastery in different architectural styles were added. Komiža is also known because of the proximity to the island of Biševo, which is famous for its astonishing cave Blue Grotto. The cave is located in a small bay named Balun on the east side of the island of Biševo. Every year visitors come to see its glowing blue light that shines the brightest between 10 am and 12 pm. Islands of Vis and Biševo offer incredible seafood, historical experience, clandestine beaches and hidden gems worth exploring.

02 Sunday Lastovo Lastovo is an island that has a rich and compelling history. It was first settled by the Illyrians and later conquered by the Romans, who settled the entire area, retaining control until the Avar invasions and Slavic migrations in the 7th century. In 1000 AD the Venetians attacked and destroyed the settlement due to the island s participation in piracy along the Adriatic coast. After the Venetian domination, in the 13th century Lastovo joined the Republic of Ragusa, where for several centuries it enjoyed a certain level of autonomy until the republic was conquered by the French under Napoleon. Austria then ruled the island for the next century, then Italy for 30 years after World War I and Yugoslavia, until it finally became a part of the independent Republic of Croatia after the Homeland war. drical chimneys that the locals call fumari and with high broad terraces, Lastovski sulari, which have become a trademark of Lastovo. There are also small churches to be found in the town which were built in the 14th century and later restored. A walk through town will take you back in time and the pristine nature will amaze you. Lastovo s beautiful bays also make it a lovely diving spot. The most popular one being Zaklopatica bay, situated in the northern part of the island, only 2 km from Lastovo village. The Village of Lastovo is an old medieval town which is surrounded by mountains so it has a natural shape of an amphitheater. The town is known for its preserved old Venetian family houses made of stone, from the 15th and 16th century. They are decorated with cylin-

03 Monday Mljet Mljet is the island most known for its spectacular forests. The word Melita Melite in Greek, has the same meaning as the Latin word for honey mell, mellis. In the past, its woods were inhabited by many swarms of bees. Intact nature led to the proclamation of the western side of the island as a National park, which includes two salt lakes, Veliko jezero (The Great Lake) and Malo jezero (The Small Lake), Soline Bay and a seaside belt 500 m wide. Located on the Isle of St. Mary, which is situated in the southern part of the Great Lake, is the Benedictine monastery and the Church of Saint Mary built approximately in the 12th century. Even though the church changed its appearance under the influence of different architectural styles, it remained Romanesque in its initial structure and design. bay and it is secluded by four small islands: Tajnik, Moračnik, Ovrata and Kobrava. Because of this sheltered position, it is popular among sailors who often anchor here. On the southern part of the island there is a village called Babino Polje, famous for the cave of Odysseus located nearby. It is an eggshaped cave named after the legend of Odysseus, who was allegedly shipwrecked near the cave and remained trapped because of the nymph Calypso who ruled the island. Even though the legend is attributed to the island of Malta, it is still well worth seeing. The cave is about ten meters wide and there is a collapsed vault of stone which forms an entrance four to five meters wide. In historical times, the entire island of Mljet was inhabited by the Illyrians. Greeks used it as a refuge from bad weather while travelling to town of Lumbarda, located on the island of Korčula. However, the island was mostly influenced by the Romans, whose archeological remnants are still visible. The most renowned ones are the ruins of the palace from the 5th century in the harbor of Polače, located in the western part of the northern coast of the island of Mljet. The palace is a fortification unit which consists of the palace, thermal baths, two early Christian basilicas, arsenal and storage for galleys. Around the whole port of Polače there are still parts of columns used for tying the galleys. The bay of Polače is the largest

04 Tuesday Pelješac Pelješac, the longest Croatian peninsula, is located in southern Dalmatia. The name Pelješac is most likely derived from the name of a hill above town of Orebić, which is Pelisac. This is a relatively new name for the peninsula. Throughout history other names have been used, such as Stonski Rat, Puncta Stagni, Ponta di Stagno and Sabbioncello. The Bay of Mali Ston separates the peninsula from the Klek peninsula of Bosnia and Herzegovina and from the Croatian mainland. The Strait of Pelješac is located at its far western end, and it divides the peninsula from the island of Korčula. Known for its breathtaking scenery, as well as its cultivation of varied products, Pelješac became the top destination for wine and dine experience. It has a long tradition of viticulture and olive growing. Most popular tours, in the recent years, are wine tasting tours. Travelers often drop by to visit the Musuem of Winery Tradition Putniković and winery Miloš because of their exquisite world renowned wines. Orebić is the biggest town on the peninsula, known for its fisherman tradition and a variety of different events held during the summer. Žuljana, a more reclusive town, is often a popular destination for anchorage. Pelješac offers something for everybody, whether you prefer joining the local community and enjoy different festivities or lounge on a secluded beach with a good book in hand.

05 Wednesday Korčula The city of Korčula developed on a small peninsula on the northeast part of the island of Korčula, opposite of the Pelješac peninsula. Streets of a medieval town of Korčula branch off as if forming a fish bone. This urban design has been maintained until present times and is just one of the many peculiarities this town has to offer. The Old Town used to be completely surrounded by high fortification walls with towers, and for a long time, it was connected to the mainland with a movable bridge. It has two entrances, Mainland Gates on the south and Maritime Gates on the west. The Old Town prides itself with as much as nine churches, the most beautiful of them dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, built in the Gothic-Renaissance style. The most prominent part of the city is the St. Mark s cathedral, perched on a small hill. It s construction lasted from the beginning of the 15th century until the middle of the 16th century. It was built by native masters, with the exception of the portal, which is the work of master Bonine from Milan. 19th centuries. In the Old Town you can visit the house of Marko Polo, who is believed to have been born on the island in He is also confirmed to have participated as a ship captain in a naval battle between Korčula and Venice, which at the time ruled over Korčula. He was captured by the Venetians and spent the time in prison writing about his journeys to China. To honour that event, every year in the beginning of September there is a reconstruction of the battle, called The Battle of Marco Polo. You can learn more about the history of Korčula in the Korčula City Museum situated opposite the Cathedral and in the Bishop s Treasury of Koručula adjacent to the Cathedral. Next to the Church of All Saints, there is a museum of icons dating between the 13th and

06 Thursday Šćedro Šćedro is a small island situated close to the island of Hvar. According to the Hvar Statute of 1331, the island was communal property and reserved for use as a pasture. The island is very fertile, and has a milder climate then Hvar. Thanks to night dew it was even used to grow grain. It will be a quick stop in this sailing tour, but nevertheless memorable one for sure. Paklinski otoci Pakleni Islands also offer a whole range of wonderful sights, glorious beaches and deserted lagoons. The name is popularly translated as Hells Islands, but it originally derives from paklina, an archaic word, which means tar. In this case, it refers to the pine resin harvested on these islands and used for water-proofing ships. The largest island is Sveti Klement, while the whole chain of islands is approximately 10 km long. The islands are a popular destination for people with sail boats and yachts, as they can anchor here, explore the wonders of the Adriatic Sea while diving, or take part in numerous water sports.

06 Thursday Hvar Island of Hvar, the longest island in Croatia, offers numerous cultural sights and breathtaking views. The name comes from the Greek word Pharos which indicates its rich history dating back to the antique period. Preserved nature and ancient monuments make this island an ideal vacation destination for people who are explorers, wanderers and dreamers. Hvar is called Madeira of the Adriatic sea for a reason. It is an island with up to 115 sunny days in a year which makes it perfect for people seeking adventure as well as those who love to enjoy lounging around the magnificent beaches and swimming in the crystal clear water. On the south side of the island, overlooking the Pakleni Islands, lies the picturesque town of Hvar. The focal point of this town is St. Stephen Square where the locals and visitors can enjoy the view at the harbor. At the opposite side from the harbor, walking down the longest old square in Dalmatia, you will find St. Stephen cathedral. It was rebuilt during the Dalmatian renaissance in the 16th and 17th century to replace the one partially destroyed by the Turks. Its most appealing feature is a bell tower which was made by distinguished craftsmen from island of Korčula. For people who want to enjoy the view over the town there is a nearby fortress Fortica. It was originally used as a watchtower but today is simply a delightful spot for watching an enchanting sunset. Pakleni Islands also offer a whole range of wonderful sights, glorious beaches and deserted lagoons. The name is popularly translated as Hells islands but it originally derives from paklina, an archaic word, which means tar. In this case it refers to the pine resin harvested on these islands and used for coating the ships which made them waterproof. The largest island is Sveti Klement and the whole chain of islands is approximately 10 km long. The islands are a popular destination for people with sail boats and yachts as they can do their anchorage here, explore the wonders of the Adriatic Sea while diving, or take part in numerous water sports.

07 Friday Šolta Šolta is an island situated in the Adriatic Sea in the central Dalmatian archipelago. The name of the island origins from the Greek name Olyntha, meaning unripe fig. Legend has it that Queen Teuta had a castle on Šolta, above the Senjska bay, called Mir (Peace). It was a place for people seeking inner strength and peace. Locals often tell a story that fisherman who wanted advice from the queen had to release the first catch of the day back to the sea. The island itself is best know for its viticulture, cultivation of olives and fruit, as well as fishing and tourism. The island s famous olive growing tradition dates back to Greek times, with Šoltanka olive tree being one of its most recognizable symbols. There are trees here that are more than a thousand years old. Today, olive groves are owned by multiple families who still keep the process of making organic and natural olive oil. Here they also offer olive oil tasting tours along with the wine tasting ones. Šolta was also a place for inspiration for the famous Croatian writer and poet Marko Marulić. His house is situtated in the miniscule town called Nečujam. Šolta is a place where your imagatination will expand and your mind will flourish with new ideas and thrilling thoughts.
