Teaching fellow at the courses Byzantine, Medieval and Postbyzantine Architecture and Topography and History of Archaeology. The perception of the past in modern Greece of the postgraduate program entitled Management of the monuments: Archaeology, City planning and Architecture Scientific Leadership Potential (A brief analysis of the applicant's scientific contribution, current recognition and potential, max length=1 page.) The Phd thesis, entitled Icon: its placement and functionality, focused on the functionality of the icons in the middle byzantine period. In this framework unpublished icons from Sinai icon collection are presented, enforcing the arguments for the arrangement of icons in middle byzantine period, especially in the public cult. The thesis is divided in three chapters, the framework of the icon cult, the icons of
3 public cult and the icons of private devotion. They further subdivided in sub-chapters; the first chapter is divided in the following sub-chapters: the definition of the term Icon and their theological background, the role of Wander icons and sacred relics in their evolution, the social dimension of the icon cult, the framework of the placement of icons in the Byzantine churches and chapels and in the houses and other lay buildings; the second chapter on the public cult is divided in the following subchapters: the written sources on the placement of icons in public and the icons from middle byzantine period, divided according to the different categories of public icons (e.g. templon icons, icons of epistylion); the third chapter is dedicated on the icons of the private devotion, where the first subchapter concern the written testimonies on this practice and the rest the icons, that can be dated to the middle byzantine period and they are considered as icons of private devotion, according to different categories (e.g. diptychs, triptychs). Main contribution of the phd thesis is the presentation of this unpublished material and a new perception for the byzantine icons, regardless their original material and focusing on their original usage as icons of private devotion or icons for the public cult. Furthermore, the rest of the scientific activity concern different topics in a wider field of interests in the field of Byzantine art and archaeology. More specifically: The paper entitled Creating a thesaurus of term for Byzantine Icons in the framework of a project for a virtual Museum for Sinai, focused on the principles for the design and the organization of a thesaurus of terms for the Byzantine iconography and the byzantine icons. The paper, entitled The debate over Cretan Icons in twentieth-century Greek historiography and their incorporation into the national narrative, focused on the history of the historiography of Cretan icons and how important they became for the construction of national identity in Greece in 20 th century. The paper, entitled Byzantine wall paintings from Mani (Greece): microanalytical investigation of pigments and plasters organizes a further research on the technique of byzantine wall-paintings, taking a selection of examples from Mani. The paper, entitled Metal small finds from Sinai. Preliminary remarks represents early Christian metal finds from Sinai and their importance for the understanding of the site east of Saint Catherine s monastery. The paper, entitled The formation and evolution of monumental painting in Georgia (6 th -12 th c.). The role of byzantine art, focused on the evolution of the stylistic trends in Georgia from the beginning of Georgian Monumental painting till the time of the queen Tamar and the role of byzantine artistic trends in their formation. The paper Coins circulation in Kos in early Christian period. The contribution of the coins from the survey in ancient Alasarna (in Greek) focused on the better understanding of the development of the rural settlements in Kos and their economic life, based on the coins circulation.
