2 Dear Friends and Bible Students, Centuries ago St. Paul set off across Asia Minor (Turkey) as an apostle of The Way. This tour retraces the steps of his journey throughout the nation of Turkey. Most of the churches of Revelation are included. The expansion of the New Testament church will come alive for us as we visit sites where the first congregations were established. We will study portions of the major New Testament letters in the cities to which they were written. We will also view sites associated with the classical cultures of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. There are connections with the Whirling Dervish at Derbe, Colossae (Colossians), Laodicea, Pisidian Antioch, and much more. This tour will help us understand the political, cultural, religious and economic conditions that both fostered and inhibited the work of the early Christian missionaries. We will have better understanding of the difficulties and threats under which they labored for the sake of the gospel. Examine the daily itinerary and read the tour conditions carefully. You will notice that group travel includes values not available to individual travelers. Airfares, accommodations, meals, transfers, entrance fees, expert guides and onsite Bible instruction are all included in the price of the tour. Your experience will be inspirational, educational and relationally fulfilling. 3 Tour Itinerary DAY 1 Tue Mar 10 USA DEPARTURE Be at the airport 3 hours prior to departure for security and check-in procedures. Fly nonstop from Portland to Amsterdam. Change aircraft and continue to Istanbul.. DAY 2 Wed Mar 11 ARRIVE ISTANBUL Arrive Istanbul this afternoon. Meet your Turkish guide and transfer to your city center hotel for lodging. DAY 3 Thu Mar 12 ISTANBUL This morning visit the Archaeology Museum of Istanbul. View the ornate sarcophagus associated with Alexander the Great. Continue to the gallery of biblical inscriptions. View the Gezer Calendar (from Israel), the inscriptions from Hezekiah's Tunnel beneath the City of David, the warnings to the infidels, and the inscription "to the unknown god". Continue to the Hagia Sophia Church (536 AD) to view the best of Byzantine architecture. Walk to the neighboring Blue Mosque with its 6 minarets (17th century). Continue to the Topkapi Palace Museum, seat of the Ottomon Empire for 400 years. Visit the Grand Bazaar, alleged to have 4000 shops. DAY 4 Fri Mar 13 FLY TO ANTALYA, PERGA, ASPENDOS Fly early this morning from Istanbul to Antalya, a beautiful coastal city on the Turkish Riviera. Visit some the world s best preserved Roman structures from ancient times. View the resplendent Roman ruins of aqueducts and an intact Roman theater. Visit the city of Perga, from which Paul left on his first missionary journey to Derbe and Lystra. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the pleasures of seaside Antalya. DAY 5 Sat Mar 14 TO PISIDIAN ANTIOCH Depart for Pisidian Antioch (Yalvac), visited by Paul in his missionary journeys (1st time in Acts 13:13-50). Here Paul changed the history of the world by opening Christianity to the pagan world. Paul addressed the local Jews as "Men of Israel and you God-fearers, listen!" It was a Roman outpost from which Paul and Barnabas were forced to leave. Continue to Isparta for dinner and lodging. DAY 6 Sun Mar 15 TO PAMUKKALE Depart for Colossae, a small unexcavated tel. To this site Paul wrote his eloquent letter of Christology. Depart for the ruins of Laodicea (Rev. 3:14-22). The city dates to the 3rd century BC. View the church, necropolis, and the theater. Nearby is the Lycus River (the springs of Hierapolis) at Pamukkale, the likely source for the Revelation quotation, "because you are neither hot nor cold I will spit you out of my mouth." Proceed to your Pamukkale hotel for dinner and lodging. DAY 7 Mon Mar 16 MILETUS, KUSADASI Motor across the countryside to Didyma. Dating to the 10th century BC, it was an important sacred Greek city due to its Oracle of Apollo. Continue to Miletus (Acts 20:17-38). It was here that Paul made his emotional farewell address to the Elders of the Church of Ephesus. Proceed to your lodging at the seaside city of Kusadasi. DAY 8 Tue Mar 17 EPHESUS Today visit the celebrated ruins of Ephesus (Rev. 2:1-7). Once a port town of 250,000 people, it is the best preserved of the seven churches. View the Agora, walk the marble Arcadian Way, visit the Temple of Diana (once one of the seven wonders of the world), the harbor baths, the small theater, the Temple of Serapis, the Temple of Hadrian, the Library of Celsus, the great theater (seats 24,000) where riots against Paul took place. Dr. Kendrick will lead a devotional this morning. Following lunch visit the museum, the upper site of Ephesus, and the Church of St. John. Return to your Kusadasi hotel. DAY 9 Wed Mar 18 TO SARDIS, PERGAMUM Depart for Sardis, Salihi (Rev. 31-6), one of the most picturesque of the seven churches. The Temple of Artemis (Diana) was built in the 4th century BC. View a Byzantine church and recently discovered synagogue. Time permitting, visit Thyatira, Akhisar (Rev. 2:18-29), today a thriving modern city. The ancient city was famous for purple dyes, coppersmiths, marble quarries, and a local Jezebel. View the limited ruins of an ancient temple (possibly to Apollo), a colonnaded road, and a large church. Proceed northward to the spectacular ruins of Pergamum (Rev. 2:12-17). The city was first mentioned as a meeting place in Xenephon s Anabasis, in 399 BC. John wrote that it was, "the place where Satan has his throne," possibly the Altar of Zeus. It was here that the first Christians were executed by Rome. Also visit the ruins of Asclepion, modern health spa, the library and Sacred Alley where parchment was first made. Return to Kusadasi for dinner and lodging. DAY 10 Thu Mar 19 IZMIR, FLY TO THESSALONIKI Depart for nearby Izmir (Smyrna, Rev. 2:8-11, "Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life." ). View local ruins which are the site of the death of Polycarp. Transfer to the Izmir Airport for the 3:00 PM flight to Istanbul. Change aircraft and continue to Thessalonika. Upon arrival (8:00 PM) meet your Greek guide and driver and transfer to your hotel for dinner and lodging. DAY 11 Fri Mar 20 PHILIPPI, THESSALONIKI Depart for Philippi (Paul preached his first sermon) where Paul encountered "a certain woman named Lydia," Europe's first convert to Christianity. Take time to consider Paul's letter to the Philippians, view the Roman City Forum, and ruins of the prison into which Paul and Silas were thrown. Return to Thessaloniki. DAY 12 Sat Mar 21 FLY TO ATHENS Transfer to the Thessalonika Airport for an early flight to Athens to tour the City of Pericles (Paul's era). Visit the Acropolis and walk up to the Parthenon. Descend to Mars' Hill, the Court of Areopagus (Acts 17) and review Paul's encounter with the local philosophers. Pass by Hadrian's Arch, the Palace Guard, the modern Olympiad, and the Plaka. The balance of the day is at leisure. Dinner is not included this evening to permit personal exploration. DAY 13 Sun Mar 22 CORINTH, CENCHREA, ATHENS Depart for the canal linking the Corinthian Sea to the Aegean Sea. Visit the Diolkos to view the grooved stones showing the wear of ancient slaves pulling small ships from one sea to the other. Proceed to Corinth, site of Paul's most extensive ministry, 18 months, 51-52AD. View the excavations, the Bema seat, visit the museum, and continue to Cenchrea, port from which Paul sailed at the end of his 2nd missionary journey (Phoebe was a deaconess here). Proceed to Myceane to view the Lion Gate (oldest example of monumental structure in Europe), palace complex and graves, theater, Temple of Streus (beehive tomb of Agamemnon). Time permitting, continue to Epidauros. Return to Athens for a special farewell dinner in the Plaka at a typical Greek taverna. DAY 14 Mon Mar 23 ATHENS FREE MORNING, TO IST This morning is at leisure in Athens. This afternoon fly from Athens to Istanbul. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel for dinner and lodging. DAY 15 Tue Mar 24 DEPART FOR THE USA Transfer to the Istanbul Airport for the return flights to the USA. Fly while reliving the experiences of viewing sites of the ancient church development, and wondering how Paul could have endured those obstacles. Upon arrival, clear customs and return to your home.

4 Tour Conditions 1. DEPOSITS: Registrations require a signed and dated IGM form and a $400 deposit per person. Late Deposit fees are: $50 for less than 100 days and $150 for less than 60 days (after invoice period) before departure. Late registrations risk airspace not being confirmed. 2. FINAL PAYMENTS: Final payments must be received 60 days prior to departure. Payments received later will be assessed $50 per person and must be paid by a Cashier's Check or Money Order. If final payment is not received by 40 days prior to departure, the participant's tour space will be canceled and the deposit forfeited. 3. DEPOSITS & FINAL PAYMENTS: Deposits payable to IGM TOURS. Final Payments payable to Encountering The Bible. 4. FINAL DOCUMENTS: Final tour documents (including airline tickets and any itinerary adjustments) will be available one week before departure to facilitate any last minute changes. 5. TOUR CANCELLATIONS: Written cancellations must be sent directly to IGM TOURS. Cancellations (for any reason whatsoever) are subject to an IGM $50 administrative fee. 90 days prior: an additional $100 per person plus $150 airline fees. 40 days prior: the full tour price is charged. There are no refunds for international tickets once issued! 6. AIR TRANSPORTATION: Delta Air Lines group economy airfares (10 persons flying the same route) are non-refundable and issued about 40 days prior to departure. Tickets do not permit changes in names, cities, or dates without penalty. Airfares are subject to change until ticketed. Bonus and discount coupons are not applicable. 7. HOTELS: Prices are based on 4 star hotel rooms (twin bedded, dbl. occ.). If changed, similarly priced hotels are used. Single room occupants (for any reason) must pay single room surcharge. 8. MEALS: Daily breakfasts & table d'hote dinners. Coffee/tea are only included with breakfasts. 9. GROUP TRANSFERS & ENTRANCE FEES: Overseas group transfers and entrance fees are included. Individual transfers are not included for those who deviate from tour itineraries. 10. GUIDES: English-speaking guides are provided. 11. PORTERAGE: Overseas porterage of 1 suitcase is included. The fee for additional suitcases/flight bags is $1 per hotel. 12. LUGGAGE: Group touring is limited to one normal size suitcase (not to exceed 50 lbs), one camera case, and one flight bag. 13. PASSPORTS & VISAS: Each participant is responsible for a valid passport with 6 months validity for USA return, and must send to IGM a legible copy (do not fax). Data is required 60 days prior to departure. A Turkey visa is required on this tour for U.S. passports and must be purchased on-line by each tour participant prior to travel. Other than U.S. passports must advise IGM at the time of registration. 14. NO SMOKING POLICY: Smoking is not permitted on coaches or flights. 15. ITINERARY CHANGES: The itinerary has been planned under the direction of your tour leader. It is possible that the daily itinerary may be adjusted by unforeseen circumstances. 16. PRICING FLUCTUATIONS: Tour prices are based upon estimated airfares and taxes, current tariffs, agreements, and based on exchange rates in effect at the time of brochure production, September These factors are outside the control of IGM, and will be defined by IGM at least 60 days before departure, the time of Final Invoicing. If the fuel surcharges increase prior to ticketing (30 to 45 days prior to departure) you will be assessed. 17. DEVIATIONS/CHANGES: Deviations/changes must be requested in writing to IGM ($50 per person plus airline fees) at least 90 days before departure. And subject to airline regulations. Requests less than 90 days (invoice period) require an added $75 fee per person. They are not accepted less than 75 days. There are no exceptions. 18. REFUNDS: Refunds are made only per the guidelines listed below. 19. TRAVEL INSURANCE: IGM strongly recommends the purchase of travel insurance for protection of one's tour and luggage investments. Coverage may commence from the day of tour deposit throughout the tour duration. 20. TOUR OPERATOR RESPONSIBILITY: IGM TOURS, Inc., herein and hereafter referred to as IGM and/or its agents, act only in the capacity as a broker agent for the passenger in all matters connected with hotel lodging, sightseeing, tours and transportation, whether by air, rail, motorcoach, boat, or any other means and as an agent holds itself free of responsibility for any damage or expense resulting from any cause whatsoever. IGM is a bonded wholesale travel broker, which complies with California's "Seller of Travel State Law": CST# IGM and/or its agents will not be responsible for any damage or expenses or inconvenience caused by late registrations, late airplanes, trains, boats, or changes in any of their schedules due to strikes or any other reason whatsoever. IGM operates 9:00am 5:00pm weekdays excluding holidays. IGM will not be responsible for the loss or damage to luggage or any passenger's personal belongings. IGM recommends the purchase of Travel Insurance to cover such events. IGM reserves the right to refuse any person as a tour member at any time before or during the actual tour. IGM reserves the right to cancel, change, or withdraw the tour in whole or in part at any time. The sole obligation of IGM is to refund payments received in connection herewith if not acceptable by tour members. Refunds for canceled airfares and services abroad for any reason will be made only after having been received from the airlines, hotels, or companies performing these services, less any out-of-pocket expenses incurred by the operation resulting from those cancellations and will follow the guidelines herein contained for cancellations. Requests for any refund due to absence from the itineraries abroad must be submitted to IGM in writing not less than 60 days prior to departure and are subject to agreements with overseas Operators. Any dispute arising out of these tours will be settled in the courts of the City of Hayward, CA. 21. AIRLINE RESPONSIBILITY: The participating airlines are responsible only for the air travel portion of this tour performed for it on behalf of tour participants in accordance with the terms and conditions of their individual passage contracts and subject to the applicable laws, treaties and regulations governing air transportation. Tour services, including but not limited to carriage by land or sea, guide services, hotel accommodations, restaurants and all services other than carriage by air, are furnished by contractors who are independent and do not act for or on behalf of the above airline and the above airline shall not be responsible for any act, omission or event occurring prior to the tour participants embarkation upon or after his/her disembarkation from the aircraft. The usual passage contract by the airline when issued shall constitute the sole contract between the airline and the tour participants and in purchasing a passage contract as part of this tour, the tour participant acknowledges and accepts the foregoing conditions. The above airline is not to be held responsible for any act, omission or event during the time the passengers are not on board its aircraft.
