Atrapos House borrows its name from the Ancient Greek word for footpath, and quite fittingly so: the building follows the shape of an old path that runs through the property, resulting in a serpentine shape that unifies different topologies and views. Situated on the secluded and unspoiled west coast of Antiparos, the residence combines daring views of the dramatic western coastline of Antiparos and the islands of Serifos, Sifnos, Milos and Kimolos but also offers a sense of seclusion and privacy found around the circular pool and a small glen below. This interplay of topography and architecture was conceived by AREA, the talented Greek architecture firm responsible for the project s design. Careful not to disturb the natural landscape, the architects have placed most spaces souterrain and used natural stone for the walls, thus literally embedding the architectural volume into the land. The whitewashed volumes that are visible from above correspond to the outdoor spaces, and give the impression of detached nests scattered in the landscape. Interior spaces follow a simple, linear arrangement, and all offer direct sea views; meanwhile, the old path that lends the property its name leads to the two guest rooms, while a second path runs from the pool down the glen and onto a secluded beach with exclusive access. Atrapos House is part of OLIAROS s 2017 development phase on Antiparos, and our new Avlakia Masterplan.
