A Young and Mature Art Self portrait (Detail) see page 4 When invention of photography was proclaimed in 1839, not all the adepts were new born chicken and a few mature gentlemen did express they interest. The PWT of recent past weeks mentioned Ettinghausen, who was sent by Klemens Wenzel von Metternich to learn private daguerreian lessons in Paris and come to create daguerrian images with him in his castle. Metternich had neet in the Congrès de Vienne Jean-Gabriel Eynard, a Swiss diplomate who manœuvred for the independence of Switzerland with his friend Capodistrias. It may be interesting to list all the actors of the creation of Modern Europe in 1815 who manifested interest for the modernity of Photography, the invention which will shape the next modernity. The e-bulletin presents articles as well as selections of books, albums, photographs and documents as they have been handed down to the actual owners by their creators and by amateurs from past generations. The physical descriptions, attributions, origins, and printing dates of the books and photographs have been carefully ascertained by collations and through close analysis of comparable works. When items are for sale, the prices are in Euros, and Paypal is accepted. N 43 : EYNARD-LULLIN
Weekly Transmission 43 1 Thursday 27 th October JEAN-GABRIEL EYNARD-LULLIN ( ). A Smile, Paris, May Six th plate daguerreotype, 71x61 mm, manuscript caption by Eynard in ink on label, verso : En mai 1847 à Paris, Marie Regny Henri Regny euros

Anne s elder sister, Caroline Jeanne Amélie Lullin de Chateauvieux ( ) had two husbands, many children and grand-children, Marie ( ) and Henri ( ) are two of them, and among the favorite models of Uncle Eynard, visiting him in his parisian hotel particulier, 27 rue de Londres. Is there a secret? They often smile. Plates in European institutions
Weekly Transmission 43 3 Thursday 27 th October Self-portrait, redressed (Bibliothèque de Genève)
Weekly Transmission 43 4 Thursday 27 th October The Excursions Daguerriennes mystery In the Lerebours publication, many plates are credited, with the notable exception of the Roman daguerreotypes. A self-portrait of Eynard-Lullan handling a forum view could suggest he is the author of the beautiful early views of Rome. The book on the chair reads: Le Comte J. Capodistrias, président de la Grèce, jugé par lui-même, d'après les actes de son administration. A book Eynard published on his close friend Jean Capodistrias, first president of Greece and a decisive supporter during the Congrès de Vienne for the inclusion of Geneva in an independant Switzerland.
Weekly Transmission 43 5 Thursday 27 th October Ioánnis Kapodístrias, Ἰωάννης Καποδίστριας, Jean Capo d'istria, Иоанн Каподистрия John Capodistria was born in Corfu (then under Venetian rule), on 11 February On 9 October 1831 (or 27 September, Julian Calendar) Kapodistrias was assassinated by Petrobey Mavromichalis s family in what is now considered a French and English plot. After two years of revolutionary freedom, triggered by the French Revolution and the ascendancy of Napoleon, in 1799 Russia and the Ottoman Empire drove the French out of the seven Ionian islands and organised them as a free and independent state the Septinsular Republic ruled by its nobles. Kapodistrias, substituting for his father, became one of two ministers of the new state. Thus, at the age of 25, Kapodistrias became involved in politics. In 1809 Kapodistrias entered the service of Alexander I of Russia.[36] His first important mission, in November 1813, was as unofficial Russian ambassador to Switzerland, with the task of helping disentangle the country from the French dominance imposed by Napoleon. He secured Swiss unity, independence and neutrality, which were formally guaranteed by the Great Powers, and actively facilitated the initiation of new federal constitution for the 19 cantons that were the component states of Switzerland, with personal drafts.[37] In the ensuing Congress of Vienna, 1815, as the Russian minister, he counterbalanced the paramount influence of the Austrian minister, Prince Metternich, and insisted on French state unity under a Bourbon monarch. He also obtained new international guarantees for the constitution and neutrality of Switzerland through an agreement among the Powers. After these brilliant diplomatic successes, Alexander I appointed Kapodistrias joint Foreign Minister of Russia (with Karl Robert Nesselrode). Kapodistrias moved to Geneva, where was his friend Jean-Gabriel Eynard and where he was greatly esteemed, having been made an Honorary Citizen for his past services to Swiss unity. In 1827, he learned that the newly formed Greek National Assembly had, as he was the most illustrious Greek-born politician in Europe, elected him as the first head of state of newly liberated Greece, with the title of Kyvernetes (Governor). In 1831, Kapodistrias ordered the imprisonment of Petrobey Mavromichalis, the Bey of the Mani Peninsula, one of the wildest and most rebellious parts of Greece. This was a mortal offence to the Mavromichalis family, and on October 9, 1831 (September 27 in the Julian Calendar) Kapodistrias was assassinated by Petrobey's brother Konstantis and son Georgios on the steps of the church of Saint Spyridon in Nafplion. Reality was also France and United Kindom did not want a new independant state in the Mediterranean Sea.
