4 French MPA Agency The Agence des aires marines protégées is a public body created by the law of 14 April 2006 and placed under the governance of the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy. Main assignements : - supporting public policies for the creation and management of marine protected areas in the entirety of French maritime waters - running the MPA network (and the network of MPA managers) - technical and financial support of natural marine parks - reinforcing French potential in international negotiations concerning marine biodiversity. 11 Natura 2000 in marine nature parks and national parks For All Natura 2000 sites included (more than 50%) in a park : - The management council of the park stands for the management committee Natura 2000 sites - The management plan of the park stands for the management plan of Natura 2000 sites - Impact assessment are reviewed by the Park - Management measures are advised by the Park More generally : all Natura 2000 measures are merged into the management of the Park Natura2000 sites, 2015, May 5th 11
12 Natura 2000 outside parks Various implementation solutions for management of sites : - Management entrusted to a local authority or to a stakeholder (e.g. fishermen association) [with technical support provided by the MPA Agency, e.g. scientific data, monitoring ], or - Management entrusted to the MPA Agency In all cases, governance of the site is chaired by the Préfet, representing the government ; all interested stakeholders are involved management and governance are preferably implemented at a multisite level Natura2000 sites, 2015, May 5th 12
