3 The Danube Black sea canal It is one of world s biggest canal in size, but it is the first in terms of volume excavations, approximately 300 millions cubic meters more than Panama and Suez canals; According to EEC UNO standards, the Danube - Black Sea Canal ranks in the 6 th class of inland canals, the highest class for such constructions.

4 AGIGEA and CERNAVODA LOCKS The maximum time for lock passage is 60 minutes; Useful length: 310 m Breadth: 25 m Depth on sill: 7,5 m Approximate filling time: - Agigea 12 min - Cernavoda 8 min

5 OVIDIU and NAVODARI LOCKS The maximum lockage time is 30 minutes; Useful length: 145 m; Breadth: 12,5 m; Depth on sill: 4,25 m; Approximate filling time: 7 min. The maximum lockage time is 20 minutes; Useful length: 145 m; Breadth: 12,5 m; Depth on sill: 5,05 m; Approximate filling time: 5 min.

8 Modernization of Locks: Project title: LOCKS MODERNIZATION. EQUIPMENTS AND INSTALLATIONS Phase 1 financed through Sectorial Operational Programme-Transport Agigea lock: chamber n 2 (right bank of DBSC); Cernavoda lock: chamber n 2 (right bank of DBSC) Ovidiu lock: chamber n 1 (left bank of PAMNC). Phase 2 financed through Large Infrastructure Operational Programme Agigea lock: chamber n 1 (left bank of DBSC); Cernavoda lock: chamber n 1 (left bank of DBSC); Cernavoda complex pumping station; Pumping stations protecting the towns of Saligny, Mircea Voda and Faclia from flooding; Ovidiu lock: chamber n 2 (right bank of PAMNC) High water galleries of Ovidiu and Navodari locks.

9 Modernization of Locks: The impact of the project consists of: Improving the safety of navigation; Takeover of the envisaged growth of freight traffic; Attracting new flows of goods to be transported by inland waterways; Reducing the negative impact on the environment and communities along the navigable canals. The total value of the project (both phases) is lei ( euro). Duration of the project :78 months (including the Defects Notification Period)

10 Modernization of Locks: The project aims are modernization and rehabilitation of: The basic technological equipments of the locks: Plane Safety Gates Plane Service Gates Service Mitered-type Gates Repairs Mitered-type Gate Locks drying system Plane valves Activation hydraulic installation Control, action and automation electric installation Protection installation of the service mitered-type gate against ship striking Lock control and supervision installation Tilting mobile bridge

11 Modernization of Locks: The project aims are modernization and rehabilitation of: Auxiliary installations and equipments of the locks: Dewatering installations Pumping stations for emptying the lock Electric power supply installation Diesel group -new generator Compressed air frost preventing installations Lock interior/exterior lighting installation

12 Modernization of Locks: The project aims are modernization and rehabilitation of: Equipments and installations related to the locks and navigation safety: Prevention and fire fighting installations TV installations with closed circuit Telecommunication installations in the locks Installation of ship signaling near the lock gates Interconnection between signaling and lighting system for the locks navigation and lock control and supervision installation Niche protection panels Floating bollards 20 tf Constructions protection for guiding the access inside the lock s chamber
