7 Pierre Delavignette ( Dec2011) Born near Charleroi (in Belgium), higher education in Brussels, (after the Athénée Royale of Uccle, Brussels). Pierre Theoretical Physics, Advanced Crystallography, Experimental Physics Pierre worked at Mol (SCK-CEN) with Severin Amelinckx TEM observation of dislocations in non-metallic layered structures, as tellurides, muscovite, talc, and graphite: Nature 1960 "He educated me [early 1970's] in electron microscopy. As a tutor, he was simply fantastic" Staf van Tandeloo (personal 2013) Pierre worked on defect structures and particulary twin interfaces: twinned materials were his favourites. Pierre got invited at Caen in 1968/9 to help developments in TEM, with Robert Cadoret, Yves Monfort, Gérard Nouet,,.

11 Claude Goux ( March2012) Claude Goux Born in Saint-Marcel (Burgundy), higher education in Paris, X 1945, + School of Mines Paris (State Corps). C. G. started to teach at the School of Mines of Saint-Étienne while doing a PhD work at the CNRS Metallurgical Chemistry Center of Studies in Vitry near Paris, under Georges Chaudron - Use of high purity aluminium (G. Chaudron's point) - Preparation of well oriented bicrystals - Observations and analyses of the bicrystals (using Georges Friedel CSL and Index formalism. No dislocations, because of G. C. ) First CRAS in 1958, 59, his PhD work in the Revue de Métallurgie in 1961 (defended in April 1962), in French (good old time). C. G. simultaneously settled a laboratory at Saint-Étienne (with many transportations from Vitry!) and created the St-Étienne group.

12 Claude Goux Claude Goux C. G. created the Saint-Étienne group, with brillant students: B. Baroux, J-Y. Boos, I. Herbeuval, Michel Biscondi, Jean-Bernard Guillot, Jacques Lévy, Jean Le Coze, Jean Rieu, Gilbert Hasson, who worked on several subjects, among them GB's. (including atomistic calculations) The 1975 St-Étienne Intern. Coll. on GBs in Metals, June, organized by Michel Biscondi and Claude Goux. But after 1975, Claude Goux proved unable to keep up with the leading of his group (which survived, thanks to Biscondi et al.) 14 Jacques Lévy (1937-9March2012) Jacques Lévy Born in Constantine, higher education in Paris, X 1956, + School of Mines (State Corps). Named Professor at the School of Mines of Saint Étienne in One of Claude Goux's first PhD students. - Technique of thinning metallic samples for Transmission Electronic Microscopy observation of Grain Boundaries, in Aluminium, first low angles GBs, then high angle GBs. First publications in CRAS in , in French, but old time was gone. First publication in English in 1969 (phys. stat. sol.), probably a little too late. J. L. also became an expert in metallic phase transformations and exerted more and more important positions, at Saint-Étienne and in Paris
