8 photo: Michael Noordam photo: Michael Noordam Gare de Saint-Exupéry TGV Aéroport Saint Exupéry Colombier-Saugnieu Gare de Saint-Exupéry TGV (formerly Gare de Satolas) is a railway station situated 20km from Lyon city centre Satolas was designed by Santiago Calatrava, built to serve the TGV line from Paris to Marseille and opened on 3 July 1994 The dramatic of the central hall s superstructure derives from one of Calatrava s sculptures: a balanced shape resembling a bird at the point of flight The building is a steel covered cement structure Above the tracks, a 300m long passenger concourse gives easy access to the platforms and is equipped with several travelators Satolas railway station is linked to Lyon's Satolas Airport by a footbridge This first airport (historically) to be served by a high speed station Unfortunately, this proximity to the airport has not helped the station Lack of interconnexion with Lyon's urban transport network is frequently cited for the station's low usage The arrival of the LESLY express tram in 2009 will help this situation [Wikipedia] photo: Michael Noordam Project is public! 20 photo: Mohsen Ozlati photo: Mohsen Ozlati Maison de Rodolphe Rue Villon Lyon This project is a new form of housing designed for homeless persons and their pets The buildings are constructed by using a wooden post and beam structure into which 15 m2 factory assembled tri-dimensional boxes are set and connected to the service networks The project includes 3 buildings and an annex : 2 main buildings (A et B), at right angles with the street, and set apart in order to create a central plaza facing out These two buildings regroup the housing units and offices (doctors, social workers, management, and veterinary services ) The C building, a simple ground floor at the center of the lot, houses the common rooms, where single individuals with animals are separated from families who have access to a dining room, and a playroom for children as well Another annex has been set up to house a kennel photo: Mohsen Ozlati Project is not public! m² Patriarche & Co Foyer Notre Dame des Sans Abris PATRIARCHE-AND-CO 20

26 photo: ptk photo: ptk Mediatheque Venissieux Avenue Marcel Houël Venissieux This library in the town of Venissieux, outside Lyon, is sited at street level, flush with an adjacent square and open to the town and its surroundings The architects wished to design a glass box with little internal hierarchy, in which all of the functions are brought together on the same level, girdled by a peristyle gallery The gallery opens to a green landscape on one side, and to the town s activities on the other At the heart of this assemblage, the entrance hall is in the form of an urban passageway between the square (to the west) and the courtyard (to the east)the roof is pierced by overhead openings that bring daylight to the interior of the building The offices form an independent entity yet are fluidly connected to the activities of the library The strength of the scheme resides in its simplicity, the ground floor is reserved for the library with the small building for the services, the result being a compact, sun-lit environment photo: ptk Project is public! m² Dominique Perrault Ville de Venissieux -ptk- 26

31 photo: Cristophe Urbain photo: Cristophe Urbain Mudd Club Rue de l'arc en ciel Strasbourg Nuera Design Office, based in Strasbourg, has attempted to design an original place to host together a trendy night bar and an exclusive club The two-storeyed bar occupies the ground level and the vaulted basement of a classified building in Strasbourg's historical centre The street being very narrow and the place dark, the designer decided to play with this constraint, creating a voluntarily dark atmosphere with small touches of lights enhancing the cosiness of the place Each of the rooms were given a slightly different style, depending on their function, all related with some permanent features such as black-painted walls, small touches of lights, LED backlighted niches and golden painted forms Deciding to circle the constraint, the designer turned the acoustic foam into a motif Instead of being concealed, the acoustic foam required for the place has been used as an aesthetic motif, and it covers the upper part of the walls photo: Cristophe Urbain Project is public! m² Interior architect Nuera Design Mudd Club nuera Mon - Sat: h 31

34 photo: Stéphane Chalmeau photo: Stéphane Chalmeau Mother and baby care center Avenue de Strasbourg Brumath EPSAN, a psychiatric establishment located near the entrance to the community of Brumath (to the north of Strasbourg), is organized, behind an enclosure wall, like a little city made up of a number of pavilion buildings, connected by an orthogonal network of roads The project included the completion, within the UMB, of a Day Hospital, a Full Time department, communal areas and consultation offices, with each of these sections requiring their own entrance In the image of the establishment's existing pavilions, in the south of the grounds, the UMB was completed in the shape of an open 'U', enclosing a garden The ambience, in the image of traditional Japanese pavilions, centres around a piece of nature, thereby creating a contemplative setting The continuous, covered walkway linking the three entities, providing a smooth transition between interior and exterior, is an element that reflects this specific spatial relationship photo: Stéphane Chalmeau Project is not public! m² Atelier Zündel & Cristea EPS Alsace Nord AZC 34
