2018 Airport Master Plan Overview of Development Concepts Greg Ballentine (WSP)
Thank You Stakeholder and community consultation has included discussions with over 40 stakeholder groups including airport tenants, community groups, government agencies, and the general public for a total of over 500 individuals consulted to date. Thank you for your contribution to the discussion. 2
What We Have Heard to Date Key issues from the community consultation include: Noise generated by aircraft, especially ground noise. Vehicle congestion and pedestrian safety. The increase in activity at the airport. Air quality and odours from aircraft and the ferry. Heavy commercial vehicles using Eireann Quay. Environmental concerns including storm water and deicing. Need for improved public transit awareness for traveling public. 3
What We Have Heard to Date Key issues from airport tenants include: Lack of facilities for general aviation, including aircraft tie-downs and hangar space. Lack of space and constraints for non-terminal Operators Congestion /delays on the existing apron and taxiways. Lack of options with respect to the provision of support services for General Aviation. Inadequate wayfinding signage both on airport and city-side properties. 4
Rationale for Development Concepts Minimize impacts on the community and the environment noise, vehicle traffic, water quality, air quality. Optimize the balance between General Aviation and commercial aviation. Enhance the operational efficiency of the airport while ensuring a balance with the community. Identify infrastructure improvements. Address regulatory requirements. Optimize the role for the users of the airport and passengers. 5
Development Concepts Opportunities and Challenges 6
Development Concepts Assumptions Development concepts are in keeping with Tripartite Agreement. Runway expansion is not considered as part of scope. Terminal expansion is not considered as part of scope. Existing hangar development on north side of the airport to remain. Proposed activity scenarios for future movements will take into consideration all impacts - TBD 7
Development Concepts Option 1 Development of south side of airport for general aviation. Additional hangars on north side of airport. Parallel taxiway with bypass Relocation of navaids Air terminal building out of scope. Runway expansion not considered in this master plan. 8
Development Concepts Option 1 North New hangar development on north side of airport. Relocate navaids. Extend parallel taxiway and provide bypass. Retain combined services building in current location. 9
Development Concepts Option 1 South Full development of south side of airport primarily for noncommercial general aviation. Access by public ferry from south side or shuttle from north side of airport. New parallel taxiway for Runway
Development Concepts Option 2 Medium development of south side of airport for general aviation. Additional hangars on north side of airport. Parallel taxiway with bypass Relocation of navaids Air terminal building out of scope. Runway expansion not considered in this master plan. 11
