6 Day 2 Madrid The day is at leisure for independent activities. You can opt for a half day excursion to Toledo. You can also experience: Wander around Parque Del Buen Retiro: It could be called as Central Park of Madrid. It's a beautiful oasis in the middle of a large, bustling city. You could get lost among the park's paths, fountains, and monuments and get some great people watching in too! The Cathedral of Madrid: Across from the palace is the main cathedral of Madrid. Finished near the end of 20th century, it's where the Prince and Princess of Asturias, Felipe and Letizia, were married in Official state ceremonies are held here, and while not the most beautiful cathedral in Europe, its roof provides some kickass photo opportunities of the Madrid skyline. Plaza Mayor: The most famous in the city and the starting point for most tours, this plaza was once host to bullfights, markets, symphonies, tournaments, and even executions. Now it's ringed with tourist shaops, cafes, and restaurants. It's a good place from which to indulge in some people-watching, offers some good (though overpriced) bars, and occasionally has concerts and events. Eat your heart out at Mercado de San Miguel: Near Plaza Mayor is this indoor market that used to be a big central market before it fell into disrepair. The beautiful Mercado de San Miguel sits next to Plaza Mayor and serves a variety of pastries, snacks, and tapas. Locals and tourists alike flock here to sample fresh nibbles, and it's a great way to see Madrid through the eyes of its natives. Fan of Live Music: If you're looking for live music, you've come to the right place. Madrid boasts plenty of venues, enormous and intimate, where the biggest national and international stars have played. If you're a jazz fan, you'll find the real thing at Cafe Central and Cafe Populart - both host live jazz nightly. If you're looking to rock out or get down and funky, look no further than La Boca del Lobo, where all concerts are free. La Coquette is a meeting place for blues lovers, El Buho Real is where you want to go to catch unplugged singer-songwriters onstage, and Gruta 77 is a favourite among fans of good ol' rock 'n' roll. Start your route at the glamorous Plaza de Callao, known for being place of putting length and premiere of numerous movies and musicals in Spain ("what happens in Callao happens in Madrid" says it's claim), to take the Gran Via, one of the most important arteries of the Madrid's "Mile of Gold", the most important commercial and business district of Spain. Later we will cross up to get to Plaza de Espana, where we will meet the statue of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, the acquaintances prominent figures of Michael de Cervantes. From the Plaza of Spain we will advance for the Paseo del Pintor Rosales to visit one of the most mysterious places of the city: Debod's Temple, an authentic temple of the Egypt of the Pharaohs that was bequeathed by the Government of Egypt to the Kingdom of Spain as a sign of gratefulness by the collaboration between both countries. From Debod's Temple we shall leave to the amazing Plaza de Oriente, where we will contemplate the most beautiful royal set that groups the Royal Palace, the Royal Theatre, Sabatini's Royal Gardens and the Almudena's Cathedral, mistress of the City of Madrid. A day that you will never forget. Originally designed as a military area, the Alhambra became the residence of royalty and the court of Granada in the middle of XIII century. Throughout the XIII, XIV and XV century the fortress became a citadel which housed two main areas: the military area or Alcazaba and the medina (or court city) where Charles V palace was built after the city was taken by the Catholics. The complex of monuments has also an independent palace opposite the Alhambra, The Generalife, which is surrounded by orchards and beautiful gardens. After this, we will have free time for lunch (not included). After lunch we will continue into the afternoon with a panoramic tour of this pretty city, stopping at Mirador de San Nicolas for photo.
