Depart for Lugo in region of Galicia. Lugo is famous for its 1700 year old Roman Wall built to defend the Roman city of Lucus Augusti against the barbarian threat and today has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its fine example of late Roman military fortification. Inside the walls, the city conserves quiet pedestrian streets, wide plazas and spacious gardens, where buildings such as the Cathedral and City Hall stand out. Dinner is provided. Overnight at Hotel in Lugo Day 2 (Thursday) Lugo La Coruna (B, D) After breakfast depart for La Coruna. Enjoy a short sightseeing tour of La Coruna which keeps its rich Celtic and Roman heritage to this day. The city is a busy commercial port of the Atlantic Ocean from which agricultural goods are produced in the region and distributed. In the afternoon you are offered to join an optional tour (to be paid for locally) to the Rias Altas through typical fishing villages like Pontedeume and Betanzos. Alternatively you might like to experience La Coruna s sites at your own leisure such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Torre de Hercules which is an ancient Roman lighthouse and the second tallest in Spain. Depart for Santiago de Compostela for a city tour of this legendary pilgrimage city! Santiago is considered one of the most important places in Catholicism as it is believed by many to be the place where St. James (one of the twelve Apostles of Christ) is buried. Millions of people from all over the world come to this city every year, many of them reaching the end of the Way of St. James pilgrimage route. The Old Town of Santiago de Compostela, together with the outlying Santa Maria de Conxo Monastery, constitutes an extraordinary ensemble of distinguished monuments. The squares and narrow streets of the Old Town contain Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neo-classicist buildings. This place is not only a harmonious and very well preserved historical city, but also a place deeply imbued with faith. The afternoon can be enjoyed at own leisure and dinner is provided. Overnight at Hotel in Santiago de Compostela Day 4 (Saturday) Santiago de Compostela Rias Bajas Vigo (B, D) After breakfast depart for the Spanish Fjords known as Rias Bajas. This coastline is regarded by many as a paradise, and is also known by the Romans as the islands of the gods. You will travel through splendid landscapes such as La Toja Island, Ria de Arousa and Pontevedra. There is an optional tour (to be paid for locally) to Santa Tecla and Valenca do Minho across the Portuguese border. In the late afternoon you will continue to the gritty industrial port city of Vigo where dinner is provided. 2 Day 5 (Sunday) Vigo Braga Guimaraes Porto (B, D) After breakfast depart for the Portuguese border towards Braga via a visit to Bom Jesus do Monte which is a famous pilgrimage site with a monumental, Baroque stairway that climbs 116 metres. After enjoy a brief city tour of Braga, taking in its Roman past. In the early afternoon you will continue onto Guimaraes to explore at own leisure. Guimaraes has beautifully preserved its illustrious past. Its medieval centre is a warren of labyrinthine lanes and picturesque plazas framed by 14th Century buildings, while on an adjacent hill stands Guimaraes Castle and Dukes of Braganza Palace. In the early evening you will continue to Porto where dinner is provided. Overnight at Hotel in Porto Day 6 (Monday) Porto Coimbra Fatima (B, D) Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy a morning city sightseeing tour of this city which is famed for its production of Port wine. There are various cellars that stretch along the banks of the mighty Douro River. The historical old town known as the Ribeira district has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will witness the Cathedral, San Francisco Church and the 19th Century, Neoclassical style, Palacio da Bolsa. After continue onto Coimbra which is the site of one of the oldest universities in Europe and birthplace of Fado (traditional Portuguese music). You will have free time to explore Coimbra. In the afternoon depart for the capital, Lisbon. Overnight at Hotel in Lisbon Day 8 (Wednesday) Lisbon (B) After breakfast enjoy a morning city sightseeing tour of Lisbon taking in sights such as the Alfama district, Tower of Belem and the Jeronimos Monastery which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight at Hotel in Lisbon Day 9 (Thursday) Lisbon Caceres Seville (B, D) Breakfast at the hotel. Depart back to the Spanish border and continue to Caceres to explore this ancient city which has a strong blend of Roman, Islamic, Northern Gothic and Italian Renaissance influences. 3 Day 10 (Friday) Seville (B, D) After breakfast begin a half-day city tour of Seville visiting the Barrio de Santa Cruz with its narrow streets, the Parque de Maria Luisa and Plaza de Espana which was built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition to showcase Spain s industry and technology exhibits. It has been used as a filming location for movies such as Lawrence of Arabia and Star Wars. The rest of the afternoon is yours at leisure. You can join an optional artistic tour (to be paid for locally) which includes a visit to the Royal Alcazar of Seville. The palace is renowned as one of the most beautiful in Spain and is the oldest royal palace to still be in use today. Dinner is provided. Overnight at Hotel in Seville Day 11 (Saturday) Seville Ronda Marbella (B, D) After breakfast depart for Ronda. Once you arrive in Ronda you will have free time to explore its charm, particularly in the old town area. It is famous worldwide for its dramatic escarpments and views, and for the deep El Tajo gorge which overlooks the Guadalevin and surrounding countryside. This view is worth the visit in itself! In the afternoon you will continue onto the coastal city of Marbella. Dinner is provided. Overnight at Hotel in Marbella Day 12 (Sunday) Marbella Granada (B, D) After breakfast continue to Granada. It was the last Muslim city to fall to the Christians in 1492, at the hands of Queen Isabel of Castile and her husband Fernando of Aragon. You will get the opportunity to visit The Alhambra and Generalife Gardens which is Europe s love letter to Moorish culture, a place where fountains trickle, leaves rustle, and ancient spirits seem to mysteriously linger. It isn t hard to see why this is one of Spain s most visited attractions!
