In the past, these two teak columns were used during a Brahmanic festivity: before the ban in 1932, young Hindu monks used to swing and rotate 180 trying to catch a satchel filled with gold coins with their teeth. Even if a few managed to catch it, many died during this dangerous activity. After our tour, we enjoy an international buffet lunch at a local restaurant, after which we stop to take photos at the fabulous Marble Temple (Wat Benchamabophit), built in precious Carrara marble. Finally, before returning to the ship, we have some free time to do some shopping. There is limited availability of English-language guides. The itinerary may be subject to change. We recommend that you book early because only a limited number of places are available. Footwear must be removed and socks must be worn to enter the temples. Comfortable shoes and dress code that is appropriate for the places of worship to be visited is recommended. 25 DAY 1 * Once in Bangkok, our first day starts with a visit to two of its most famous temples. The first is the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, home to the third largest reclining Buddha statue in Thailand. * We then move on to the Emerald Buddha Temple, home to the most ancient Buddha statue, whose clothing is changed three times a year in conjunction with the Thai seasons during a solemn ceremony performed by the Monarch himself. * Inside the 1,900 metres of walls that surround the complex, we can also observe the Grand Palace, commissioned in 1782 when King Rama I decided to move the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok. * We start feeling peckish so a local restaurant welcomes us for a delicious lunch with international and Thai dishes. * We then move towards the nearby jetty, from where we set sail on a thrilling trip along the Chao Phraya river - a fascinating cruise that enables us to admire city life on both banks. * Once back on dry land, we have some free time to shop in a famous store. * We then head towards the Siam Niramit theatre where, while waiting for the evening show, we enjoy a delightful buffet dinner with international dishes. * A unique experience awaits us after dinner: a majestic show illustrating the history and traditions of Thailand filled with colours, surprising set designs, singing and dancing. * After the show, we go for a stroll through an evocative night-time market to immerse ourselves in the authentic local atmosphere and to do a bit of shopping. * We then reach one of the main hotels overlooking the river where we can rest. It reflects the splendour as well as the Western influence prevailing at the time. * While visiting its countless rooms, we are fascinated by the grand architecture and by the numerous objects once owned by King Rama V. * After our visit, we bid farewell to the fabulous city of Bangkok and head back to the port on our coach /2 Hours approximately Easy EUR EUR Sightseeing Cultural Meal Included Laem Chabang TWO DAYS DISCOVERING BANGKOK (single room) A two-day excursion to discover the many sides of Bangkok - ranging from Buddhist temples to a cruise along the Chao Phraya river to majestic colourful palaces and their magnificent architecture. It is a characteristic local means of transport that can seat up to 4 people. * The first stop is the temple of Wat Kraom, also known as Wat Utynieng and one of the most popular attractions in Sihanoukville. Located 3 km from the city, it boasts interesting architectural elements and is dedicated to the local divinity Ya-Mao. Inside, there are multiple Buddha statues in various positions in the typical Khmer style. Each statue narrates the story of Buddha, venerated and respected by the locals. The next stop on our tuk tuk tour is the local market of Phsar Lurh, where we can wander around and do a bit of shopping among stalls selling fresh food, clothing and electronic devices. We then continue past the Independence Resort, the historic Sihanoukville hotel designed by French architects Leroy and Mondet, and the nearby forest, where we might spot a few funny monkeys. We stop for some photos at the monument that is the symbol of Sihanoukville, i.e. the Golden Lion Monument, located in the centre of a roundabout between the Sokha and Ochheuteal beaches. The monument was built in 1996 and is made up of two golden lion. It has become a point of reference for the city, surrounded by typical Cambodian restaurants. The surrounding gardens have become an evening hub for the locals and especially young people. After this stop, we continue our tuk tuk tour with Ochheuteal Beach, one of the most popular among both tourists and locals. Here, we have the chance to enjoy some drinks (not included in the price) such as Angkor Beer, a type of beer made in Sihanoukville, before heading back to the port on our tuk tuk. The price of the private coach is not included in the price of the tour. This excursion involves long walks on uneven surfaces, therefore it is not recommended for guests with mobility problems. Personal expenses and other services not mentioned in the itinerary are not included. The itinerary may be subject to change to avoid overcrowding. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. PAGE 27
