Starting in South England, you will pass through France, Luxemburg and Belgium to the Netherlands. From here, you can continue the route through Germany and Poland or to Italy. 3 37 64 A The Dutch Golden Age The Dutch Golden Age (17th century) was a period of great wealth for the Dutch Republic. With the East India Company (VOC), trade blossomed. Cities who were members of the VOC were among the richest in Holland, and the rich history of these cities is still visible in their many mansions, canals, churches, city walls and harbours. In 1593, the first tulip in Holland could be admired in the Hortus Botanicus in Leiden. Today, you can enjoy the fields of tulip and other bulb flowers in the Bollenstreek, the Noordoostpolder and Kop van Noord-Holland areas. And at Keukenhof, where over 7 million flowering bulbs can be admired every year. Holland is also famous as the largest flower exporter in the world.
