This one-day event will bring the Brussels Open Days back to the region, building on the themes debated in our Brussels event. We will look at successful projects and opportunities to learn from partners from other European countries. The event will be aimed at elected local politicians, officers and practitioners from local authorities, the regional development agency, universities, non-governmental organisations and project partners from across Europe. Target groups of participants: Representatives from the region s authorities, national and local government, and a delegation from EU institutions. 3

4 Region of Istria (Europe of Traditions - Linking through itineraries) "Territorial cooperation leading to smart investments for people" November 2014 Territorial cooperation Workshop Organisers: Region of Istria The territorial cooperation has been a driving force that characterised the Region of Istria in the past decade, especially referring to the international and cross-border cooperation of the pre-access period that ensured its regional prominence in Croatia. The local event will trace the importance of different aspects of territorial cooperation that bring closer European regions and cities promoting synergies and integration. Those aspects are: cultural heritage, tourism, EU and international projects, education and youth exchanges, environmental resources and waste management... Tangible and concrete proposals will be privileged in order to undertake, among the partners and involved stakeholders, cooperation activities and projects that may benefits of the new European programmes. Therefore one of the major outcomes of the event shall be a reinforced mutual collaboration in territorial cooperation and thematic programmes of the European Union while undertaking specific cooperation actions to enhance social and economic cohesion. Target groups of participants: Representatives from national and European regional and local authorities, as well as the interested stakeholders

European membership brought Croatia more possibilities in development of health and social tourism. The event will be the opportunity to look at successful examples and initiatives. First stage of the event will cover European programmes and examples of improving the lives of underprivileged citizens,, while at the same time helping local economies to develop their health, cultural and tourism sector. Second part of the event will be held on the principle of several groups that will develop new initiatives based on the information from the first part. The event will be aimed at practitioners at local, regional and interregional level in the health and tourism sector, social partners, non-governmental organisations from the wider region. The content of the event will be designed to engage the audience in order to raise further cooperation and initiate new projects within the opportunities available. Target groups of participants: Representatives from the region s health institutions, tourism and culture sector, civil society organizations, policy makers at local and regional level, media

The aim of the workshop and round table is to introduce the current state and future prospects in the field of tourism in the border and transnational area in order to utilize the specific potentials of the Croatian-Hungarian-Serbian cross-border area. Speakers will present good practices in the field that combine different resources to encourage the growth of the regional economy based on tourism. The given examples of good practices will be able to help to unlock business potential in the areas of partnerships, cross border business cooperation, access to finance and access to knowledge. The event will also be used as an opportunity to discuss the possibilities for the joint implementation of the given practices in different geographical areas, based on specific regional needs. 6

8 City of Rijeka (European challenges - local solutions) "Support for social entrepreneurs projects" Rijeka 19 November 2014 Building capacity Presentations and Workshops Organisers: City of Rijeka Ms Nataša Mandić, City of Rijeka, Adviser for Entrepreneurship Ms Olivera Stanić, Secretary of the Center of Technical Culture Rijeka, NGO is part of a network CEDRA which provide education and support to social entrepreneurs Ms Ph.D. Neda Vitezić, Full Professor on Faculty of Economics Rijeka - University of Rijeka, expert for Business Analysis and Planning and Socially Responsible Enterprise Analysis Rijeka's event will focus on local initiatives for setting up social enterprises and socially responsible enterprises. The event will show the results of research on public attitudes and intentions of the civil sector and entrepreneurs in launching projects of social entrepreneurship and socially responsible companies. This one-day event will present: Rijeka City and European support programmes for entrepreneurs, successful examples, education that will be provide by the University of Rijeka and non-government organisations. That local engagement will offer solutions for challenges in local entrepreneurship. The content of the event will be designed to engage the citizens, entrepreneurs and organisations which have little or no previous experience of social entrepreneurship and raise awareness on European and local politics that support it. Target groups of participants: SME's, representatives from the universities and NGO-s, local and regional authorities. 8

Andrijana Parić, senior expert, Razbor Ltd Counties, cities and municipalities have a large interest in withdrawing funds from the European funds and the fact is that only quality projects will be awarded through public tenders. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen local and regional human resources so they would be able to understand EU policies and programmes, to monitor competitions and to develop and prepare quality projects. These are the reasons why Public institution RERA SD is going to organize a two-day workshop where target groups will get more familiar with these topics. The main theme of the workshop will be Understanding of EU policies and programmes. To be able to develop projects that will apply for EU funds, it is important to know what are the priorities that EU has defined for its development, to understand why these priorities are important and how can concrete projects contribute to development. The aim is to encourage individuals for proactive approach to the problem and offer them knowledge and skills that can help to solve it. Knowledge, that participants are going to acquire, is going to contribute to the successful preparation and implementation of the projects. 10 Zagreb (Capital Cities and Regions Network (CCRN)) "Urban development through integrated public transport" Zagreb 7 November 2014 Connecting regional strategies Workshop Organisers: City of Zagreb Jelena Ricov, Head of Office for EU programmes and projects, City of Zagreb This is the first year that City of Zagreb as well as other Croatian cities and regions fully participate in the implementation of structural and cohesion policy of the EU, as well as implementation of Europe2020 goal through EU programmes. The workshop will be the platform for presentation of current status and discussion on future developments in the field of integrated public transport of Zagreb metropolitan area. Participants will focus on presenting and discussing technical background, policy issues and possibility of using available Regional Funds as well as Structural Funds and EU programmes in the light of achieving Europe2020 goals in sustainable development and mobility, research and innovation in traffic solutions and management. Target groups of participants: Participants will be representatives of City of Zagreb, national, regional and local government officials and experts in the field of transport and funding, representatives of private companies, financial institutions and national associations, national and European researchers and experts in the field regional and urban policy as well as non-governmental organisations. 10

Mrs. Andrea Novaković, Head of City of Dubrovnik Development Agency, after participating at one of these conferences in Brussels has decided to organize one in Dubrovnik within the Open days in Brussels.This one-day event will bring the Brussels Open Days to our city. Dubrovnik s local event will focus on presenting and discussing local development initiatives building on the Open Days thematic priority A: Connecting regional strategies. The conference intends to trigger a dialogue among institutions and people about how we can shape the transformation process towards sustainability. The conference will encompass challenges for cities and examples of successful local projects in that field. It also aims at contributing to current EU and international processes and at informing the Dubrovnik s public about them, thus we will present a way how European Parliament acts on local sustainability projects. The event will be aimed at elected local politicians, officers and practitioners from local authorities, Croatian members of the European Parliament, social partners, and representatives of the university, non-governmental organisations, academics, students and researchers. The content of the event will be designed to engage wider public in order to raise their awareness of the challenges and opportunities available in sustainable development. 11
