1 BANE RANDJELOVIC Governor Newsletter No Photo of the month: Our District 2483 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UNICEF representative in Serbia Michel Saint-Lot with the aim of promoting children s rights
2 A word from the Governor It s amazing how the clubs are raring to go, firing up fervor and energy, despite the near-end of the Rotary Year. I am supposing that club leaders want to leave as deep a trace as possible this year. Furthermore, even though the District Tree Planting report is sent to President Ian H.S. Riseley for World Planet Earth Day on April 22, this by no means implies that the clubs that have not had time to do so should not send their reports for the period of the Rotary Year. We will continue to log everything and place it on a District E-tree map, as usual. I think that we should praise the previous dedication of our District Tree Planting Officer, Časlav Maksimović. We are fortunate for having the Interact Club Semendria (Smederevo) and the recreated Rotaract Club Ćuprija- Morava. What is the situation with Rotary clubs? At the beginning of the year, we set the goal that each of the existing clubs will have at least one member extra at the end of the year. To the extent that I am following this situation in the RI base, we have a slight increase, although not as much as planned. I am of the opinion that all the presidents should work on this in a more earnest manner. Governor-elect Vlada Matić has held some very successful seminars: DTTS for preparing his team for the following year, and a remarkable PETS-SETS seminar for the preparation of future club management. Our Rotary movement now has a very important and respected partner - UNICEF. Also, the DELTA Foundation will be our partner on a future project, working with our marathon runner Goran Nikolić. I will use this opportunity to pay tribute to some assistants whose work I am very satisfied with for the time being. These are the following: ADG Vita (RC Ćuprija), ADG Ivica (RC Smederevo), ADG Sonja (RC Niš), ADG Dana (RC Šabac), D. Trainer Zoran (RC Niš-CV), DRR Srđan Barac, and of course, my left hand, cashier Radmila and my right hand, the unrivaled Nikola Božić. I would also like to commend the personal engagement of some Club Presidents, whose dedication I praise as Governor: Aca Radojičić (Bgd-Skadarlija), Bilja Dobrić (Bgd-Kalemegdan), Mirko Komatina (Bgd S. Grad), Daliborka Bradić (Bgd- Sava), Vlada Bulatović (Budva), Vesna Baur (Čačak), Vlada Radunović (E-club), Milena Durutović (Podgorica), Oskar Sok (Senta). Yours in Rotary, From the Editor Our District has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UNICEF, a UN child protection organization. It gives us the opportunity to work on join projects with one of the most prominent and prestigious world organizations for the benefit of the youngest. When you look at the objectives of UNICEF as a United Nations organization and compare them with the activity of Rotary International, you can see how they intertwine and coincide. This tells us that as an organization we are on the right track and we are managing to deal with real problems. Child protection, education, mother and child care, potable water, sustainable economic development, protection against infectious diseases, and of course, world peace, are topics that are acknowledged in UNICEF programs as well as by other United Nations organizations. In the future, we need to work even more in the area of networking and cooperation with global, world organizations, as well as with domestic institutions with which we can jointly realize the goals we share in full. Furthermore, we can present our goals more easily with organizations that are recognized as constructive institutions, and in the long run, we shall change the general image of Rotary in our society. On the other hand, such cooperation can strengthen our own belief that we are involved with the appropriate projects, acting in the right direction, thinking in a worthwhile way, as other important organizations, which occupy positions in a wide consultation process, share our values. Thus, it is par for the course that we make a difference. DG Bane Ranđelović ADG Nikola Božić, editor
