2 Group Tour A: Scandinavia & Russia Departing 30 August 2010 August 2010 Mon 30: Australia/Bangkok - we depart Australia today on our flight to Bangkok. After spending a couple of hours at Bangkok Airport we board a connecting flight through to Copenhagen Tue 31: Bangkok/Copenhagen/Oslo - on arrival in Oslo we are met by our local guide and transferred to Scandic Hotel Byporten (1 night). September 2010 Wed 01: Oslo/Bergen (B) - on our magnificent rail trip to Bergen we view wide expanses of forests, secluded lakes, waterfalls and fertile valleys with well-kept farmsteads. At Myrdal we take a side-trip on the spectacular Flam railway which covers some of Norway's wildest and most magnificent scenery. On the ride we can see rivers that cut through deep ravines, waterfalls, snowcapped mountains and farms built on sheer slopes. Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz (2 nights) Train from Oslo to Bergen Thu 02: Bergen (B) - our morning tour visits Fantoft Stave Church, originally built in 1150 and then reconstructed after a fire in Afterwards we continue to the home of Norway s most famous composer Edvard Grieg. We also stop at one of Bergen s best panoramic viewpoints. Afternoon at leisure. Fri 03: Bergen/Norwegian Coastal Voyage (B, D) - day at leisure in Bergen before transferring late in the afternoon to the ferry terminal. An evening supper/ buffet is served on board the MS Polarlys. Accommodation in outside cabins with private facilities (6 nights) Sat 04 to Wed 08: Norwegian Coastal Voyage (B, L, D) - for more than a hundred years, the Hurtigruten ships have been a vital link for Norway s coastal communities. During the course of the journey between Bergen and Kirkenes we dock at a variety of towns, ports and fishing villages including: Trondheim, Brodo, Tromso and Hammerfest. The ship will spend between two and six hours at each port, thereby providing an opportunity to briefly explore the town before re-boarding. Thu 09: Kirkenes/Oslo (B) - after leaving the ferry in Kirkenes, which is situated only 10 minutes from the Russian border, we transfer to the Airport for our flight to Oslo. Scandic Hotel Byporten (3 nights). Fri 10: Oslo (B) - today we take a guided tour of the city including Vigeland Sculpture Park, Kon-Tiki Museum, Holmenkollen Ski Arena, Viking Ship Museum, Amundsen and Nansen s Polarship Fram Museum. Sat 11: Oslo (B) - at leisure. Sun 12: Oslo/Stockholm - in the morning we transfer to the airport for our flights to Stockholm. The capital city of Sweden is built on islands connected by bridges and is known as Venice of the North. RICA Hotel Stockholm (2 nights) Mon 13: Stockholm (B) - our day starts with a two hour Under the Bridges of Stockholm tour. We cruise on the city s waterways and sail under 15 bridges, through two locks and around idyllic islands. The tour covers many of Stockholm s well known sights. Afternoon at leisure. Tue 14: Stockholm/Viking Line (B, D) - the morning is free to explore more of Stockholm. In the afternoon we transfer by coach transfer to the Viking Line Terminal for our overnight cruise from Stockholm to Helsinki. 2-berth inside cabins with private facilities (1 night). Wed 15: Helsinki (B) - we arrive mid morning into Helsinki and then transfer to our hotel. Day at leisure for individual activities. Sokos Hotel Vaakuna (2 nights) Thu 16: Helsinki (B) - our city tour covers the most interesting areas of Helsinki such as the historical centre, the Presidential Palace, City Hall, the Parliament building, Finlandia Hall and the Opera House. Fri 17: Helsinki/St Petersburg (B) - those people not travelling to Russia with the group will transfer to Helsinki Airport and board their flights back to Australia or onto the next destination on their trip. Those members of the group that are continuing will board the Finnish Train Sibelius for our rail journey through to St Petersburg. Dostoevsky Hotel (3 nights). Market square in Helsinki

3 Sat 18: St Petersburg (B) - we start our day with a guided city tour visiting Palace Square, Alexander s Column, the Senate Square, Bronze Horseman and buildings of Senate and Synod. In the afternoon we enjoy a 4 hour private tour of the Hermitage where the largest museum collection in the world is spread throughout four buildings; the most well known of these is the Winter Palace, the former Royal residence. The Hermitage houses a tremendous collection of Western European art, including such masters as Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael. Sun 19: St Petersburg (B) - privately guided tour to the Town of Pushkin Palace of Catherine the Great. The estate was developed into one of the most magnificent and richest residences in Europe by the most famous architects and craftsmen of the time. The palace contains exquisite decorative objects, furniture, Russian and West- European paintings, unique collections of porcelain, amber, arms, decorative bronze and sculptures. Mon 20: St Petersburg/Moscow (B) - morning tour to nearby Peterhof the most famous of the Imperial summer residences. Our tour through the palace shows you opulent mirrored rooms decorated with paintings and gilded wooden carvings. After completion of the tour we return to St Petersburg and transfer to the station for rail journey to Moscow. Holiday Inn Sokolniki (3 nights). Tue 21: Moscow (B) - during our panoramic city tour we view many ancient churches and cathedrals, beautiful theatres and palaces; modern business complexes and hotels and buildings. We visit the historic centre of the city, which includes the Red Square, Sofiiskaya Embankment, St Sophia Cathedral, and the panorama of the Kremlin walls. Afternoon at leisure. Wed 22: Moscow - privately guided tour of Kremlin Territory with Armoury Chamber. During this tour we walk through the Kremlin grounds and visit the Armoury Chamber with its famous collection of Faberge eggs, jewels and royal thrones. Thu 23: Moscow/Copenhagen - flight from Moscow to Copenhagen. Comfort Hotel Excelsior (2 nights) Fri 24: Copenhagen (B) - we start the day with a guided tour of Copenhagen s major attractions including: the Tivoli Gardens, Little Mermaid, canal district and the colourful harbour. We also visit Amalienborg Palace the Winter residence of the Royal Family where there may be an opportunity to see the changing of the Guard. Sat 25: Copenhagen/In Flight (B) - our day is free to explore the peaceful capital of Denmark with its church steeples, palace towers and copper-roofed old houses. In the evening we transfer to the airport for our flight back to Australia. Sun 26: In Flight/Bangkok - mid afternoon arrival into Bangkok. We have the use of Transit Airport Accommodation (courtesy of Scandinavian Airlines) until we board our late evening flight with Thai Airways flight to Australia. 6 Iceland Pre Tour Extension Commencing 04 September 2010 September 2010 Sat 04: Copenhagen/Reykjavik - on arrival we transfer by coach to our hotel. The airport is located approximately 50kms from downtown Reykjavik. Afternoon at leisure. Plaza Hotel (5 nights). Sun 05: Greater Area Reykjavík Sightseeing (B) - our tour includes the most significant places in the capital and the surrounding towns. We view the presidential residence at Bessastaðir as well as Hafnarfjörður, the town where the hidden people and humans live together in harmony. We visit the old fishing harbor, Hallgrímskirkja church and the old town centre where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi and the town hall are situated. Wed 08: Reykanes Peninsula and Blue Lagoon (B) - after leaving the capital we head to the Reykjanes peninsula where the mid Atlantic ridge rises from the ocean. More than half of the peninsula is covered with lava fi elds, some of which are only a few hundred years old. We head for the lighthouse on the westernmost tip of the peninsula. This is a magnificent area with rich bird life in the summer. From there we continue through the lava fields to the nearby fishing village of Grindavík. Our next stop is The Blue Lagoon a unique geothermal spa situated in the youngest lava field in west Iceland. Once there you have many recreational options such as bathing in the milky blue water, massage and spa treatments or walking in the Blue Lagoon s spectacular surroundings. We start by visiting Nesjavellir, a high temperature geothermal area in the scenic landscape of Lake Thingvallavatn. From there we go to the Thingvellir National Park, where the Icelandic parliament Alþingi was founded in the year 930 AD. We continue to the beautiful waterfall Gullfoss, where we can walk so close to the edge that we might feel the mist of the glacial water on our faces. From there we journey towards the geothermal area around the incredible spouting hot springs of Geysir and Strokkur. We proceed to Skálholt church, the ancient seat of the Icelandic bishops. From there we travel towards Hveragerði, a small and charming horticultural village. Tue 07: South Coast & Þórsmörk (B) - we begin our tour by driving over the mountain heath Hellisheiði towards Selfoss town and then along the south shore to Seljalandsfoss waterfall. From there our journey continues towards the interior to our main attraction, Þórsmörk (i.e. Thor s Woodland), a nature reserve shielded on three sides by glaciers and mountains. The glacial melt-off forms rivers that have to be crossed on the way, but those can change in a matter of hours from an innocent stream into a thunderous torrent. Once there we make a stop to enjoy the breathtaking scenery with its multitude of small gullies and valleys, clad with low birch-trees that create seemingly endless possibilities for the nature lover.
