3 WELCOME TO PEREGRINE From our humble first steps in the foothills of Nepal, we ve expanded to over 80 countries across all seven continents. Over 40 years of operating, one thing has stayed constant our desire for authentic adventure. Our passionate guides and leaders will give you the story behind the well-known highlights, then help you find the smaller moments that make your journey truly unforgettable. Not only will you see the stunning polar landscapes firsthand, you ll also learn why they re so special, thanks to the knowledgeable onboard specialists giving lectures throughout the journey. We re a company built by travellers, for travellers, and it shows in every step. Take your next one with us.

4 THE PEREGRINE EXPERIENCE We don t believe in travel as a means to simply tick items off a bucket list. At Peregrine, we take the time to get under the skin of a destination and discover what makes it unique. Of course, we all want to see a polar bear in the Arctic or king penguins on South Georgia Island, but while we re there we ll spend time with the Inuit people and learn about their way of life, or cruise around in Zodiacs to gaze at the monolithic icebergs up close. Seeing the famous landmarks and wildlife is a must, but experiencing them with a passionate expert is what makes these trips truly special. An adventure to the Arctic or Antarctic may be something you ve always dreamed of. Perhaps you saw a documentary or read a book that ignited your passion, or maybe you just love the idea that there s still a place that remains largely untouched by humans. Whatever it is that s piqued your interest, once the idea of going has taken root it s impossible to think of anything else. The polar regions are a visual feast. Each day spent in these surreal landscapes brings the possibility of new wildlife sightings. In the Antarctic, that might mean humpback whales, orcas and leopard seals, while the Arctic sees the mighty polar bear hunting on the ice as the unicorn-like narwhal swims below. Few who visit these areas come home unchanged. 2 // peregrineadventures.com

7 POLAR EXPERTS Peregrine, together with our partner companies Chimu and Quark Expeditions, have led thousands of polar voyages. We use this wealth of combined experience to plan our journeys. Each itinerary is carefully designed to offer the perfect balance between exploration and relaxation. YOUR HOME AT SEA The ships boast onboard chefs to prepare a range of hearty, quality meals. In fact, many of our passengers return home raving about the food. You will certainly never go hungry. While the world outside the ship will undoubtedly mesmerise you, we hope to craft a world inside the vessel that also captures your imagination. With personalised service and dedicated teams on hand to help travellers, these ships are like four-star hotels on the water. ONBOARD EXPERTS There s only so much you can read in a guidebook, especially when it comes to such rare and extraordinary locations. We therefore feel it s essential to have a range of specialists on board for every polar journey. We want to ensure everything from the miraculous glacier formations to the awe-inspiring wildlife can be located and explained. With experts at hand, you can be assured that no question will be left unanswered, and no sight left unseen. SAFETY & RESPONSIBILITY We pride ourselves on our exceptional safety standards and eco-credentials. 8 OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES Watching from the water as a glacier looms overhead; discovering a tundra bursting with plant life in a brief summer; strapping on crampons to climb to a unique mountain viewpoint these are just some of the one-of-a-kind memories you ll take away from the polar optional activities (which also include mountaineering, cross country skiing and hiking). Hot air ballooning Reaching the North Pole is a big thrill, but imagine being one of only a few people in the world to soar high above it in a hot air balloon. Rising high to get a bird s-eye view of the ship and the Arctic ice cap below, you can t help but gasp at the 360-degree view to all points south. Please note: this is not included in the trip price, must be booked prior to your journey and is weather dependent. Stand-up paddleboarding Pull on your booties, hold on to your paddle and enjoy the Antarctic from a different perspective. If you thought paddleboarding was a wonderful experience at home, imagine what it s like kicking off from an icy ridge, gliding past majestic icebergs and over waters so blue they re almost hypnotic. Perhaps you ll be accompanied by seals, penguins or, if you re extremely lucky, a whale or two. Snowshoeing Our lightweight snowshoes make it easy to navigate your way across the polar snow and visit usually inaccessible places. This traditional mode of transport comes from the indigenous people of North America, who constructed them from wood. Nowadays, the shoes are much lighter and more forgiving, allowing you to discover remote alcoves and hidden valleys. (Not offered on all voyages) Kayaking & day kayaking Imagine the tranquillity of gliding across glass-like water with nothing to disturb you but the sound of your paddle. All equipment is provided and a guide will be on hand at all times. Please note: this is an optional activity not included in the trip price, and must be booked prior to your journey. Kayaking involves multiple excursions and some previous experience is essential, but day kayaking is a one-off excursion that requires no prior experience. 6 // peregrineadventures.com

EXPEDITION PARKA & EXPEDITION BOOTS Your expedition boots are provided, on loan, to save space in your suitcase and ensure that you re equipped to fully explore these regions. On some voyages you ll also receive an expedition parka, designed to withstand the rigours of polar travel, which is yours to keep. WHAT S NOT INCLUDED FLIGHTS & TRANSFERS When booking your voyage, please enquire about international and domestic flights and transfers to and from the start and end points of your journey. Please contact us for more information about availability and prices. TRAVELLING ON YOUR OWN? Triple share cabins are also available on most vessels, and on some you ll find great value quad shares. IMPORTANT REMINDER Embracing the unexpected is part of the legacy and excitement of expedition travel. When travelling in extremely remote regions, your expedition staff must allow the sea, ice and weather to guide route and itinerary details. Please remember that these itineraries are an outline of what may take place, but every voyage is unique and a once-in-a-lifetime experience is guaranteed. 8 // peregrineadventures.com

Departing from Ushuaia, Argentina, this extraordinary mid-summer expedition crosses the mountain-lined Beagle Channel, traverses the famed Drake Passage and sees Antarctica in full seasonal swing. As great swathes of ice and snow melt away across the peninsula, one incredible white vista appears after another. Beautiful rocky beaches vie for attention with whales, seabirds and penguins, excursions by Zodiac offer intimate views of the landscape and wildlife, and regular lectures from onboard experts provide context and natural history which enriches the experience a great deal. With warm hospitality, lashings of comfort and ample leisure time along the way, Jewels of Antarctica is a perfectly paced adventure into the final frontier of adventure travel destinations. Day 1 Ushuaia Welcome to Ushuaia. This vibrant city, located on South America s far southern tip, is known to be the southernmost city on the planet and the day is yours to explore it. There will be information and a welcome meeting at your hotel at 7.30 this evening so please ensure you are there in time to attend. Day 2 Ushuaia Emarkation Board the M/V Hondius mid-afternoon and set off across the Beagle Channel, taking in the majesty of the mountains on either side, and sail away the rest of the evening. You will get to know your crew and fellow guests over some welcome drinks and dinner. Meanwhile, the wide open seas of the famous Drake Passage beckon. Days 3-4 Crossing the Drake Passage Follow in the footsteps of the great explorers before you and enter the Drake Passage, opening your senses to the cool salt breezes, rollicking waves and perhaps even a fin whale crashing through a column of ocean spray. We will pass over the Antarctic Convergence Antarctica s natural boundary formed when north-flowing cold waters collide with warmer subantarctic seas. From this point, not only does the marine life change, but the avian life too. Albatross and petrels rear their heads, and Cape pigeons and southern fulmars may be spotted. Then, near the South Shetlands Islands, the first icebergs come into view, and these are always a thrill to witness. Your onboard lecture program begins and continues for the entirety of the cruise. This is an immensely enriching aspect of the journey, offering legendary tales, information on the flora and fauna and fascinating insights into the geology of the Antarctic region. Days 5-9 Exploring Antarctica Antarctica has arrived. Welcome to the world s most untouched wilderness, where snowy peaks of stone, towers of broken blue-white ice and vastly different kinds of wildlife present themselves in all their natural glory. We ll first pass the snow-capped Melchior Islands and the Schollaert Channel, sailing between Brabant and Anvers islands. Depending on the route and weather, you ll explore sites including Cuverville Island, which is home to a colony of 16 // peregrineadventures.com

19 Peregrine Exclusive Voyages Antarctica Atlantic Ocean Antarctic Circle several thousand gentoo penguins and pairs of breeding brown skuas, and Crystal Sound, whose ice-packed body of water makes for an exciting potential landing. You ll also find gentoo penguins on Danco Island, as well as both Weddell and crabeater seals. Port Lockroy, with its former British Research Station turned museum and post office, is located on Goudier Island and reached by sailing through the Neumayer Channel. Here you ll also find Jougla Point, home to gentoo penguins and blue-eyed shags. This is an area that also offers amazing opportunities to go kayaking or spend a night camping. Drop in at Paradise Bay for a chance to walk on the great continent again. Here, you can take a Zodiac cruise in search of humpback and minke whales. Similar opportunities await at Wilhelmina Bay, while Foyn Harbour offers a fascinating slice of history and houses the wreck of the Guvernoren, a Norwegian whaling boat that caught fire in 1915 as a result of a boisterous below-deck party. Sitting among a frozen landscape populated by giant icebergs, the Melchior Islands are a place to stumble across yet more whales, as well as leopard and crabeater seals. When you re not out exploring the waters and landscape, there ll be ample free time on board the ship to enjoy informative lectures, warm hospitality, the ship s impressive facilities and, of course, to get to know the other travellers taking the same journey. Days Crossing the Drake Passage It is time to journey back across the Drake. As your return voyage begins, be greeted once again by the wide variety of seabirds that inhabit the skies. The Falklands have the largest blackbrowed albatross colony in the world and five species of penguin breed on the islands. Port Stanley is located on East Falkland Island and offers an opportunity to meet the hardy locals whose colourful houses are a contrast to the long, dark winters. Take a historical walking tour to learn about its colourful history, and visit nearby bird and penguin colonies if time permits. Keep your eyes peeled while exploring this spectacularly wild coastline for lumbering polar bears, breaching whales, walruses hauling out, herds of reindeer, flocks of seabirds and the impossibly cute Arctic fox. This one s a trip for wildlife lovers and adventurers alike. Day 1 Longyearbyen Your voyage begins in Longyearbyen, where you ll board the ship. This is the island s largest settlement and you can enjoy the view of the island s rugged, glacier-topped mountains poking up through icy Arctic waters as the ship pulls away. Days 2-12 Exploring Spitsbergen Expect a new adventure every day during this journey as you navigate Spitsbergen and its smaller, outlying islands. The variety of wildlife, landscapes and geological formations here is astounding. Every expedition will be unique, but a few of our favourite landing sites include the 14th July Glacier, Ny-London, Phippsoya, Aklefjellet and the seldom-visited Kvitoya. Perfect for birders, the 14th July Glacier is home to purple sandpipers, common eiders, barnacle geese and Arctic terns while Alkefjellet hosts colonies of nesting Brunnich guillemots (thick billed murres). Keep cameras at the ready at places like NY, London, Sundneset and Alkhornet, where reindeer are often sighted, as well as Phippsoya and Isbukta two popular hunting grounds for the world s largest land predator, the polar bear. 54 // peregrineadventures.com

57 Quark Voyages Arctic A big part of appreciating Spitsbergen comes from understanding this area s local cultures; not just how its people live today, but how this land was first explored and settled. Whaling was a key industry here and you will see blubber ovens and other whaling evidence at landing sites such as Smeerenburg. Other possible landing sites include Kapp Lee, a well-known walrus hangout, and Diskobukta, which is both a fun word to say and home to the bones of ancient bowhead whales, evidence that the shoreline has changed over millennia. Day 13 Disembarkation Longyearbyen Your adventure ends as it began, in the settlement of Longyearbyen. Hike along sprawling tundra, explore fjords and ice floes by kayak, spot wild reindeer on the trot and give snowshoeing a shot. This journey along Spitsbergen s western coast showcases the incredible natural beauty and iconic wildlife of the Arctic. Day 1 Embarkation Longyearbyen Welcome to Longyearbyen, the largest settlement on Spitsbergen. Prepare for incredible mountain views as you embark on this unforgettable adventure. Days 2-8 Exploring Spitsbergen Cruise around this magical island on a constant search for wildlife and unforgettable vistas. Some of our favourite destinations on the western part of the island include 14th July Glacier, Smeerenburg and the Hinlopen Strait. You ll also get to explore fjords and outlying islands to the north. From polar flora to immense glaciers, the natural landscape of Spitsbergen is just as varied as its animals. Each day we aim to reach destinations that present the best opportunities to spot wildlife. With luck, you ll see polar bears in Hornsund, which is one of their preferred hunting areas. The cliffs of Alkefjellet are popular with polar bears and the Arctic fox, thanks to all the bird eggs. Poolepynton is a great spot for spotting walruses. Other potential landing sights include Nordaustlandet Island, which is known as a habitat for walrus and reindeer, as well as the Lilliehook and Monaco glaciers. In terms of activities, optional kayaking excursions allow you to reach some isolated pockets of Spitsbergen. In Smeerenburg you can visit a memorial erected in 1906 to remember the whalers who lost their lives here in the 17th and 18th centuries. Each day you ll see something new, whether it is a rare bird species or an abandoned hut from centuries ago. Day 9 Disembarkation Longyearbyen It s time for your Arctic adventure to end. Say goodbye to your shipmates as you disembark in the frontier-style settlement of Longyearbyen. From here you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home. This expedition will travel to western Spitsbergen as well as some stunning fjords and outlying islands to the north. From polar deserts to immense glaciers, the natural landscape is just as varied as the wildlife. Each expedition presents new opportunities, so there will be no fixed itinerary; however, our favourite destinations include 14th July Glacier, Smeerenburg, Phippsoya, Alkhornet and the Hinlopen Strait. Each day s destinations will be chosen for optimum wildlife viewing and appreciation of the history and geology of Spitsbergen. Seeing polar bears is possible at Phippsoya, one of their favourite hunting grounds. The towering cliffs of Alkefjellet is another, as the eggs laid by seabirds provide many an easy meal for both polar bears and the Arctic fox. Coming across a walrus haulout is a moment you ll never forget. The noise these graceless creatures produce in vying for plots of coastline is incredible, with Torellneset and Phippsoya great places for catching the action. If you re keen to explore Spitsbergen s more isolated pockets, we recommend the optional kayaking trips. Spitsbergen is made up of six national parks, three nature reserves, one geotopical protected area and 15 bird sanctuaries, ensuring there is an abundance of wilderness to uncover by paddle power. Then marvel at the steep canyon walls and prehistoric animal fossils of Somerset Island. There s plenty of birdlife to see today, including peregrine falcons, the nesting sites of local terns, 68 // peregrineadventures.com

71 Quark Voyages Arctic Arctic Watch Cambridge Bay plovers and snow geese, and the unique gull rookery at Gull Canyon. Day 6 Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge Lots of activities are on the cards today, plus a delightful picnic lunch on the beach. Unimog trucks will take you to the Cunningham River for a full day of rafting. If you re feeling up to it, jump out of the trucks for a six kilometre hike through the Badlands and chance to see some 8000-year-old whale fossils. Keep an eye out for wildlife, including musk oxen, snow geese, jaegers, Arctic foxes, sandpipers and rough-legged hawks. Your expert guides will prepare the rafts while you enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach; then it s time to navigate the swift-flowing waters. The rapids are gentle, the water is crystal-clear and you ll pass incredible scenery along the way. Freshen up back at the lodge before a farewell dinner. Day 7 Arctic Watch Wilderness Lodge Yellowknife If there s time, you can take part in one last activity before leaving the lodge. Then say goodbye to the staff and head back to Yellowknife for a free afternoon. Day 8 Yellowknife Spend a final breakfast swapping stories with your travel companions before heading home. Alternatively, extend your stay in Yellowknife and try dogsledding or hiking on the Canadian Shield. PLEASE NOTE The likelihood of seeing beluga whales in the early season is dependent on weather and ice conditions. The 10-day itinerary (PPAW16) will spend two more days at the lodge (Days 2-8). 72 PEREGRINE ADVENTURE CRUISING Introducing Peregrine s small ship adventure cruising a premium cruise without the premium crowds. While big ship cruising is all about life on the boat, we re about the destination: stopping at little islands the bigger ships can t reach, exploring local markets and learning about a place s history and culture from the local guides who know it best. These journeys have a low environmental impact and are carbon offset through a range of renewable energy projects, causing less stress to the local communities and on the environments we visit.

73 PEREGRINE ADVENTURE CRUISING Vietnam Coastal Cruising North to South Take a memorable journey from Hanoi, in the north, to Ho Chi Minh City, in the south. Without forgetting iconic Ha Long Bay, lively Nha Trang and the old town of Hoi An, experience the destinations seldom seen by anyone but local fisherman. Croatian Coastal Cruising Split to Dubrovnik Cast off to Croatia, an idyllic escape in the middle of Europe. 74 CRUISING THE GALAPAGOS Up in the highlands of Isla Santa Cruz you ll find Galapagos tortoises milling around, shuffling along in search of their next meal. The picture is so perfect, the tortoises so impeccably framed by lush greenery, it s as if someone has deliberately placed them there. It s a feeling that you ll often get travelling in the Galapagos, almost a thousand kilometres from the South American mainland. It seems every new beach, lagoon, hillside and outcrop you visit is home to an abundance of amazing creatures unperturbed by your presence. Grand Galapagos This 17-day program is the ultimate Galapagos exploration and our most comprehensive voyage. Encounter giant Galapagos tortoises, blue-footed and masked boobies, pelicans and frigatebirds, as well as iguanas, sea lions, fur seals and perhaps dolphins, whales and sea turtles. For more information enter PSGQG on our website. Classic Galapagos This classic 10-day journey delivers a wonderful and varied spread of what the archipelago has to offer.
