Assisted with all aspects of marine technology in support of research cruises. Assisted with deck operations and CTD deployment and operation. Worked with monitoring shipboard data collection and instrumentation, deployments and recoveries of CTDs, XBT launches, SWATH bathymetry mapping, ROV operations, shipboard data feed coordination, mooring deployments and recoveries, routine data collection and archiving for underway instrumentation (thermosoalinograph, flow cytometer, meteorological sensors, and ADCP), and troubleshooting equipment during cruises that involved retrieval and deployment of cables and instrumentation related to the Canadian fiber optic observatory. Assisted with deploying CTDs, large net tows for small fish, jigging for squid, acoustic sampling with echosounders, deployment and recover of an acoustic sampling boom, squid tagging, and setting up and supporting shipboard experiments. Assisted with the deck work and the collection/processing of the shipboard measurements; deployment and retrieval of instruments including CTD, NISKIN bottles, and nutrient sampling; instrument and equipment testing and preparation for cruises; operation and maintenance of equipment; data transfer and back-up of oceanographic data. Worked with the Seabird CTD system, the underway Surface Mapping System, ADCP, and some deck work during several research cruises on each vessel.
