Sydney at Capacity Sydney s port facilities could reach capacity during the summer cruise season of 2013/14 Solution for large cruise ships east of the Harbour Bridge is urgently needed Industry growth is unlikely to slow 25
Sydney Growth Difficult to predict two years ago - one of the world s largest cruise ships (Voyager of the Seas) based in Australia During the season we will carry four times the number of guests than we did last summer - an increase of more than 100,000 guests Additional deployments from competing cruise lines that can only use facilities east of the Bridge To assist our economy to grow to its full potential we require proper infrastructure 26
Sydney Outlook Demand for cruising in and around Australia is unlikely to diminish for three reasons: 1. Panama Canal expansion (late 2013) 2. Strength of the Chinese cruise tourism market 3. Complimentary southern summer deployment Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. owns ten of the 12 largest most innovative ships in the world and not one of them can fit under the Sydney Harbour Bridge This is an opportunity Australia must grasp with both hands Get Sydney right and the region prospers 27
White Bay Since the decision to build a $60m cruise facility at White Bay by the previous State government in late 2009 our company alone is deploying an additional three superliners to Sydney able to carry a combined total of nearly 10,000 passengers at any time. Funding currently allocated to White Bay would be better used building a facility that accommodates the needs of all cruise ship sizes, not just the smaller ships currently berthing at Darling Harbour/Barangaroo $60m is a considerable amount of money to invest in a permanent terminal west of the Bridge that most ships calling into Sydney in the future won t be able to use Recommend redeploying a large part of the funding towards a terminal the whole industry can use 28
Temporary Facilities Temporary facilities used around the world Terminals not architectural statements Functional is the key 29

Sydney Outlook Our deployments were announced after the previous government s decision to move the western cruise terminal to White Bay and to spend $60m on a terminal. The pattern of ours and other companies deployments is towards newer bigger ships that cannot pass beneath the Harbour Bridge. (Eg. Radinace, Solstice, Millennium, Voyager, and Carnival Spirit) It is not unreasonable to suggest that if there is going to be money spent on a replacement terminal it should be able to be accessed by all of the industry whether big or small. 41
