A native of South Africa, she studied medicine in Johannesburg before eventually joining Princess in 2014 to fulfill her love of sea and travel. We caught up with her to get her insights into cruising and what goes into crafting the perfect voyage. HOW DID YOUR CHILDHOOD INFLUENCE YOUR DECISION TO HAVE A CAREER AT SEA? My holidays were spent camping at a seaside resort with days playing on the white sandy beaches of South Africa. I have always loved the sea. I remember seeing my first cruise ship in Port Elizabeth and being overwhelmed with the size and grandeur of cruising. I was amazed that there was a doctor on board; so, fantasy became reality. WHAT S THE MOST AMAZING MOMENT YOU VE SEEN? Sailing through the Fiordlands in New Zealand on a clear day. The magnificence of the fjords and the untouched beauty really made an impression you can get lost in the beauty and serenity of this mystical land. WHEN DO YOU RECALL SEEING A GUEST OVERJOYED? I love looking into the dining room when waiters present the Chocolate Journeys creations by Norman Love. There is utter delight when the plate gets placed in front of them. The guests get lost in that first bite of absolute sweetness and flavor combinations! WHAT DO YOU SEE ON BOARD THAT NEVER FAILS TO WARM YOUR HEART? Listening to couples tell their love story. I am privileged to meet people who have been married for 50-plus years and listen to how they gush over each other. It is wonderful to see a couple who has dealt with many of life s problems together. WHAT S THE MOST FASCINATING FACT ABOUT YOUR JOB? Meeting people from all around the world from different cultures and listening to their experiences When I get the chance to talk to passengers and crew, their life stories make me smile.
